Iowa State University – International Merit Scholarships
- Award Description – Iowa State is committed to enrolling a diverse and talented student population. The International Merit Scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated strong academic achievement, and outstanding talent or achievements in one or more of the following areas: math and sciences, the arts, extracurricular activities, community service, leadership, innovation, or entrepreneurship.
- Eligibility – Incoming international freshmen applicants and international transfer applicants with fewer than 66 transferable semester credits.
- Scholarship Awards – There are two international Merit Scholarship levels (see below). Freshmen and transfer applicants are eligible for both levels of awards.
- Level Scholarship Amount: Gold $8,000/year (renewable) and Cardinal $4,000/year (renewable)
Monterey Institute – MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

Miami University (OH) – International Student Scholarships
- Miami’s International Student Scholarship program provides renewable merit-based scholarships for outstanding international applicants. International Student Scholarship awards can vary from $2,000 to $16,000 per year. Award amounts are determined by academic records, test scores, and other factors received by Miami University at the time of application.
- In addition to the International Student Scholarships, all international students with equivalent U.S. grade point averages of 3.50 (or equivalent) or higher and SAT scores of 1280 or ACT scores of 27 or higher are also considered for merit-based scholarships. These additional scholarships can range from $500 per year to full tuition per year. Merit scholarship amounts are determined by the academic records, test scores, and other factors received by Miami University at the time of application.
- Over 30 percent of the fall 2016 international first-year students who were admitted to Miami University were also offered a scholarship. All students who complete applications for admission are automatically considered for the scholarships listed above. No separate application is required.

10. Roger Williams University
- Roger Williams University offers a number of institutional scholarships for international students ranging from $10,000 to $16,000. Scholarships are renewable for the student’s full four years of study at RWU, if they continue to meet eligibility requirements.
- Other Qualifications include: Exam Results, Curriculum Rigor, Leadership Roles, Extracurricular Activities, Letters Of Recommendation and English Ability
- International transfer students who will graduate with an A.A. or A.S. degree from a U.S. two-year institution may qualify for the Roger Williams University Transfer Scholarships. Please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admission for more information.
9. Saint Catherine University – Catherine T. McNamee International Student Scholarship
- Eligibility: This scholarship is awarded to female, bachelor degree seeking students enrolled full time in the day program. Scholarships are based primarily on academic achievement and financial need.
- Annual Amounts: $4,000–$20,000 while enrolled full time
- Scholarships are applied to tuition, room and board if the student lives at the University.
- Most international student scholarships are based on the student taking four classes per semester and living on campus. Scholarships will be reduced if a student takes fewer classes or lives off campus.
- This scholarship was established in 2012 to honor St. Catherine University’s 8th president, who led the University to greater international visibility.
8. Sweet Briar College – General Academic Scholarships
- Academic scholarships are available to first year applicants and transfer students seeking an associate or a bachelor degree. All awards are renewable yearly based on satisfactory academic achievement and good standing at the University of Bridgeport. All incoming undergraduate international students are automatically considered for these scholarship awards once all application materials are received by the specified deadlines:
- Academic scholarships range from $11,000 to $17,000 per academic year, and are based on academic excellence and English proficiency. No separate application form is required to be considered for these scholarships.
7. Hiram College – Global Scholarships for International Students
- Although Hiram College does not offer need-based aid to international students, there is a generous program of merit-based global scholarships. These scholarships range from $1,000 to $18,000 per year and are renewable annually for up to four years of study. To be considered, you must have your completed application for admission into the Admission Office not later than February 1.
- There is no separate scholarship application. The files of all students admitted to the College will receive scholarship consideration. Both the Admission and Scholarship Committees evaluate each student’s application file in its entirety. This holistic review includes academic preparation and performance, standardized test scores, teacher recommendations, personal essay and interview, with the strongest emphasis placed on academic performance. Scholarship recipients are notified by February 15.
6. Smith College – STRIDE Scholarships
- Each year, Smith College offers some of its finest incoming first-year students one of the best perks possible: a scholarship that includes a paid research position with a Smith professor—a prestigious job and research opportunity that undergraduates at most liberal arts colleges don’t even hope for.
- This scholarship of $20,000 per year for four years is awarded to approximately 50 students per year. In addition to the scholarship, students are also given an annual stipend of $2,400 per year for two years that is linked to research with faculty members.
4. Oregon State University – Cascades Honorary Scholarship
- Entering undergraduate students may apply for this scholarship.
- Amount $25,000
- Quantity: 1 individual scholarship
- Send 600-800 word essay on what it means to be a global citizen, drawing on specific examples of personal experience with cross-cultural communication.
3. Wabash College – Trustee International Scholarships
- Wabash College has a long tradition of welcoming international students to its campus. Because the cost of an American education may be prohibitively high, students are encouraged to first explore all options of financing their education from personal funds and outside sources before applying for aid from Wabash. All international students can qualify for Wabash International merit-based scholarships and in some cases need-based assistance.
- Merit-based scholarship awards covering total direct cost of four year attendance, including tuition, fees, and on-campus room and board are offered. Trustee scholarship awards are based on character, leadership and academic accomplishment as documented within the admissions application. Awards are renewable up to eight semesters and require satisfactory academic progress. All international students with a complete admissions application on record by February 15, 2016 will be reviewed for the Trustee Scholarship Awards.
2. Need-Blind Admissions
- Schools Awarding Financial Need-Blind Admissions Aid. This is a relatively new admissions policy but what it means is that a college or university will admit students regardless of their ability to pay, and for any students that cannot afford the price-tag, the university awards scholarships and other institutional aid to make up the difference. There are now nine US schools that offer need-blind admissions to international students. Basically, if you can get in, you can afford to go – they are:

- provides access to secondary and higher education for young people who are committed to giving back to their communities. It is designed to provide students with holistic support, including the following:
- Comprehensive Scholarships — Students receive financial support for fees, uniforms, books and supplies, transportation, accommodation, and stipends.
- Skills Training — Students benefit from enrichment in areas relevant to employment success, such as critical thinking, communications, and entrepreneurship.
