Financial Aid for International Students

Harvard is strongly committed to making educational opportunity accessible to all. All financial aid is awarded on the basis of financial need, and Harvard meets 100% of each family’s demonstrated need. About 70% of Harvard undergraduates receive financial aid.

The financial aid policies for foreign citizens are exactly the same as those for U.S. citizens. All aid is need-based, and admissions decisions are made without regard to whether an applicant has applied for financial assistance.

Students who are not United States or Canadian citizens or permanent residents should complete the “Financial Statement for Students from Foreign Countries.” If you do not have a copy of this form, please request one from our office or download the forms from the Financial Aid Office website. This form must be completed by all incoming students who are not United States or Canadian citizens or permanent residents, whether or not they plan to apply for financial aid. Without complete information and appropriate certification, Harvard cannont issue visa documents.

For more information, please refer to the Financial Aid Office Website.

Financial Aid

Our goal in admissions and financial aid is clear: We want to bring the best people to Harvard, regardless of their ability to pay — and we do. About 70 percent of our students receive some form of aid, with nearly 60 percent receiving need–based scholarships.

Two principles guide us:

  • Admission to Harvard is need-blind, by which we mean that financial need is not an impediment to admission. International students have the same access to financial aid as United States citizens.
  • Financial aid at Harvard is entirely need–based. Harvard fully supports every student who qualifies for financial aid, based on the family’s ability to pay.

  7. Great pleasure to come across Harvard financial aid and blind admission. I believe it is the right place i should try for luck. I am a Sudanese from south, interested in undergraduate studies. Never had a chance to step into a university due to financial constraints and refuge life. Currently back to my home country. active participant for women and youth development program on voluntary service for the last 7 years. Greatest challenge; illiteracy. I wish to deliver to my people more. Could my country be eligible for scholarship?

    Regards.
