Undergraduate Scholarships

RUFORUM/MasterCard Scholarships
- The RUFORUM /MasterCard Foundation partnership focuses on transforming the African agricultural university into an institution that meaningfully contributes to Africa’s growth and development.
- This program embodies an array of mentoring and culture transition services to ensure student academic success and transition to employment opportunities, furthering social and economic change in Africa.
- Scholarships at the undergraduate level target students who are academically endowed but lack the resources to pursue further education. Students who are from conflict and post-conflict areas of Africa are especially welcome to apply.
- The main benefits of this scholarship include a tuition fee waiver, return air ticket, living expenses (including stipend and hostel fee), and research costs, among others.
- Recipients of this scholarship also benefit from leadership development, entrepreneurship training, mentorship and life skills support.
- In East Africa, the MasterCard Scholars Program is hosted by Gulu University in Uganda and Egerton University in Kenya.
Advancing Africa Scholarships at Brown University
- Recipients of this scholarship are known as Advancing Africa Scholars.
- All recipients are asked to sign a pledge to return to full-time residency in Africa for a period of at least two years upon completion of undergraduate studies at Brown or if they have an opportunity to continue their studies, to return upon completion of a graduate degree.
- During their undergraduate studies at Brown, recipients are entitled to two return trips paid through the Fund.
- Upon their return to Africa, recipients receive an appropriate monthly stipend for two years to ensure a higher standard of living and to ease their transition. If the recipient ceases to be a full-time resident of Africa within the two-year period, this stipend is terminated.
- Awards are given as credits toward the cost of tuition fees, room, and board. Financial aid covers books and some personal expenses.
. Canadian University Dubai Scholarships
- The Canadian University in Dubai is committed to promoting the recruitment and retention of high academic achievers.
- These scholarships were introduced based on the belief that financial limitations and special needs should not prevent any qualified individual from getting a good education.
- There are four types of scholarships, namely Academic Excellence Scholarships (including the Academic Achievement Scholarship for new students), Sports Scholarships, Financial Hardship Scholarships and Special Needs Scholarships.
- Tuition fee waivers range from 20% to 100% of the total cost of the course.
- These scholarships apply to any course offered by the University.
Indian Government Scholarships for Tanzanian Students
- The Government of India launched an initiative in 2008 to enhance the academic opportunities for African students in India. The Indian Government increased the number of scholarships available for courses at all levels.
- Scholarships of the Indian Government available to Tanzanian students include:
- Symbiosis International University Scholarships (SIU Scholarships) that are offered to meritorious foreign students. These scholarships only cover tuition fees.
- Scholarships under Africa Scholarship Scheme – Students receive a monthly stipend of Rs 5,500, a contingent grant of Rs 5,000 and a house rent allowance of up to Rs 5,000.
York University Undergraduate Scholarships
- York University is currently Canada’s third-largest university and provides applicants with a wide variety of courses to choose from.
- The International Entrance Scholarship was established to cater for international undergraduate applicants
- Recipients of this scholarship are selected based on academic excellence, leadership qualities, exceptional community service and individual achievement.
- Scholarships for international students amount to $35,000 per year for four years, totaling $140,000.
Graduate Scholarships
Aga Khan Foundation Scholarships
- The Aga Khan Foundation scholarship program was set up with the primary aim of giving international students the opportunity to become productive scholars and effective leaders.
- Every year, a limited number of postgraduate scholarships are given to outstanding students from developing countries who have no other means of financing their education.
- Each scholarship is given on a 50% grant, 50% loan basis. The repayment rate for the loan is 5% per year.
- The scholarships cater for tuition and living expenses only.
- This scholarship covers tuition fees at any university in the world, provided that the course chosen is relevant to the Aga Khan Development Network’s focus areas.
- The Australian Development Scholarships, popularly known as Australia Awards, were set up to promote knowledge, education links and enduring ties between Australia and its partner countries.
- Recipients of this prestigious scholarship join a host of talented individuals who are committed to sustainable and lasting change in their home countries.
- The key aim of these scholarships is to identify and nurture leadership potential in individuals from developing countries and provide enhanced leadership, knowledge and technical skills to partner governments.
- Benefits of this scholarship include tuition fees, an economy class flight to and from Australia, an annual stipend of AUD 30,000, OSHC and an establishment allowance of AUD 5,000.
- The Australia Awards offer short and long term study and professional development opportunities to students from developing countries worldwide.
DAAD/UWC Graduate Sub-Saharan Scholarships
- The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), in conjunction with the University of Western Cape offers talented students the opportunity for transformation into development-minded leaders.
- The Development Research Division (DRD) at UWC offers merit scholarships to talented students from Sub-Saharan countries with excellent academic records.
- Successful recipients will be based at the African Excellence Centre at UWC. There are also other partner institutions within Africa, offering different courses.
- This generous scholarship gives recipients a monthly allowance (inclusive of travel allowances) of €650 for Masters candidates and €900 for PhD candidates.
- Recipients may get the opportunity to visit Germany (the host country of DAAD) within the period of the scholarship.
New Zealand Development Scholarships
- New Zealand Development Scholarships give students from targeted countries the opportunity to pursue development-related studies.
- Recipients of this scholarship receive a full tuition scholarship, a return air ticket, a fortnightly living allowance and an establishment allowance.
- Studies are taken at universities in New Zealand and participating Pacific Universities, in courses related to agricultural development and renewable energy.
- Partners and spouses of students are eligible for a work visa that allows them to live and work in New Zealand for the duration of the course.
- Recipients are required to return to their home countries for at least two years after completion of the scholarship so that they can apply their new skills in government, civil society, and private organizations.
VLIR-UOS Scholarships in Belgium
- The VLIR-UOS program fosters academic cooperation between institutions of higher learning in Flanders, Belgium and those in developing countries.
- The scholarships are designed to equip graduates with the skills needed to assume positions of responsibility in their home countries.
- The Master’s programs are taught in English and last either one year or two years.
- Benefits include a full tuition fee waiver, as well as monthly, accommodation and family allowances.
