Pakistan Scholarships FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative Fund (DAFI)
- UNHCR provides, on a limited basis, scholarships for refugees at the tertiary level in universities and polytechnic institutions through the Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative Fund (DAFI). Funding for this programme is provided by the Federal Government of Germany.
- The purpose of the DAFI Programme is to contribute to the self-reliance of refugees by providing them with a professional qualification for future employment. Scholarships are granted only for studies in the country of asylum. Preferably, UNHCR would like to see the graduates return home and contribute to the reconstruction of their home country, or to the development of the country of asylum or the refugee community at large.
- One of the corporate philosophies that distinguishes Bestway Group from other companies is the desire of its chairman Sir Anwar Pervez to help those less fortunate. This is manifested in the charter of the Bestway Foundation established in 1987 in the United Kingdom.

Cara (the Council for At-Risk Academics)
- helps academics in immediate danger, those forced into exile, and many who choose to remain in their home countries despite the serious risks they face. Cara also supports higher education institutions whose continuing work is at risk or compromised.
- Every year, Cara receives hundreds of requests for help from persecuted and at-risk academics. Many are desperate, and in immediate danger.
- In partnership with universities and research institutes, trusts and foundations, learned societies and other like-minded organisations, as well as many academics and other concerned individuals, Cara offers them solidarity, support to reach a place where they can work in safety, and financial and practical help.
Community College Initiative Program
- enables individuals from Brazil, Cuba, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Pakistan, South Africa, Turkey, and selected countries in Central America to spend one year studying at community colleges in the United States and earn a vocational certificate.
LUMS – National Outreach Programme
- aims to provide equal academic opportunities to people of all social walks across Pakistan. In order to fully harness the potential of the human resources of the country, LUMS has been trying to provide a broader access to its programmes across Pakistan.
- A new initiative – the “National Outreach Programme” was launched in 2001, with the objective of providing educational opportunities to bright and talented students from smaller cities, villages and inner city areas of large urban centres, who are unable to meet the programme’s regular fee requirement. Deserving students with exceptional Matric and FA/FSc results (80% & above) are encouraged to apply through the National Outreach Programme for a four year Undergraduate Programme.
Shifa College of Nursing (SCN)

Sir Feroz Khan and Lady Viqarunnisa Noon Educational Foundation
- was established in 1992 by Lady Viqarunnissa Noon to support bright young scholars from Pakistan to study at leading universities in the United Kingdom, notably the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge.
- As stated in the Trust Deed:”The objects of the Trust are to advance the education of persons (both male and female) born, domiciled or normally resident in Pakistan, by the provision of bursaries, scholarships and other financial support to enable such persons to pursue courses of higher education in the natural, applied and social sciences at Universities and Polytechnics and similar institutions situated in the United Kingdom, The United States of America and elsewhere.”
University of Cambridge – 800th Anniversary Scholarships for applicants from Pakistan
- The University has introduced a new scholarship scheme for applicants for undergraduate admission from Pakistan for 2010 entry onwards. The 800th Anniversary Scholarships have been created with funding from Cambridge Assessment, parent of Cambridge International Examinations who provide school exams throughout Pakistan.
- The scholarships to be held at the University of Cambridge are for school-leavers from Pakistan who meet the usual examination qualifications for admission to Cambridge. Applicants for all courses except Medicine and Veterinary Medicine are eligible to apply.
University of Sheffield – Pakistan 50% International Scholarships
- There are two Pakistan 50% Undergraduate Scholarships available for Pakistani students starting their undergraduate degree studies in September 2009.
- Each scholarship is worth 50% of your undergraduate course tuition fee per year. The scholarship will take the form of a tuition fee reduction.
- To be eligible for the Pakistan Undergraduate 50% Scholarship 2009, applicants must be a Pakistan national or permanently domiciled in Pakistan, apply for a study place by 24 April 2009 and hold an offer of a study place for entry in September 2009.
- The Pakistan 50% Undergraduate Scholarship 2009 is awarded on the basis of academic merit.
- If you wish to be considered for this scholarship you need to apply. Eligible students will automatically be sent details of how to apply from January 2008 onwards.
- Applicants cannot apply for the scholarship before being offered a study place at Sheffield.

Airey Neave Trust -Refugee Support
- Those people with refugee status or exceptional leave to remain in the United Kingdom and a letter from the Home Office to prove it. Exclusions: asylum seekers, refugees with asylum status in countries other than Britain, overseas students in the UK on a student visa, British citizens or refugees now holding British citizenship.
- Some preference given to: Doctors of Medicine, Veterinary Surgeons, Dentists.
- How to apply – Applicants should apply in March for the following October and must be interviewed on the telephone by Mrs Hannah Scott (0207 833 4440) in order that their command of English may be assessed as well as their eligibility before application forms are sent out. No new applicants are considered after the 1st of May.
- Average grant award – £1,500 towards fees. Extra needs – applicants will need to find £400/£500 from elsewhere for travel and essential books.

Pakistan Overseas Scholarship Scheme

University of Melbourne Refugee and Asylum Seeker Scholarships
- Refugee and Asylum Seeker Scholarships were established by the University of Melbourne with the aim of assisting refugees and asylum seekers with the cost of tertiary education.
- From its office in Khartoum WTI sponsors refugees and internally displaced Sudanese to study undergraduate level courses at universities and colleges in Sudan. To promote gender equity over half the beneficiaries are female. WTI supports scholarships with funds from various donors, and is the implementing partner for the UNHCR Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative (DAFI).
