Yale University meets 100% of financial need for International Students

October 11 By Samuel 76 Comments

Scholarship Overview

  • Yale is proud of its strong commitment to equality of opportunity. We extend our need-blind admissions policy to international students so the College will be accessible to all candidates from any part of the world who show great academic and personal promise, regardless of their financial situation. Yale’s financial aid policies for foreign citizens are exactly the same as those for U.S. citizens.
Host School

  • Study at Yale
  • Many years ago, former Yale President Kingman Brewster wrote that selecting future Yale students was a combination of looking for those who would make the most of the extraordinary resources assembled here, those with a zest to stretch the limits of their talents, and those with an outstanding public motivation – in other words, applicants with a concern for something larger than themselves.
  • He said, “We have to make the hunchy judgment as to whether or not with Yale’s help the candidate is likely to be a leader in whatever he [or she] ends up doing.” Our goals remain the same today. Decade after decade, Yalies have set out to make our world better.
  • We are looking for students we can help to become the leaders of their generation in whatever they wish to pursue.

Field(s) of Study

  • Any Undergraduate Program

What does the scholarship cover?

  • Your application for financial aid will not affect the admissions committee’s decisions and, if you are admitted, Yale will meet 100 percent of your demonstrated financial need with a combination of tuition grants and term-time employment.
  • All students’ families are expected to contribute funds to the extent they can. You must make sure that these funds can be withdrawn from your family’s country. International financial aid forms are available on the Financial Aid website.

How many scholarships are given?

  • International students comprise 10 percent of Yale College enrollment

Which countries are targeted?

Yale is proud of the rich diversity of its student body and seeks to attract the best high school scholars from around the world.

  • International enrollment has doubled during the tenure of Yale President Richard C. Levin
  • Yale College students come from 86 countries around the world

Am I Eligible to Apply?

  • Yale is above all an academic institution. This means academic strength is our first consideration in evaluating any candidate.
  • The single most important document in your application is your high school transcript, which tells us a great deal about your academic drive and performance over time.
  • We look for students who have consistently taken a broad range of challenging courses in high school and done well. Your high school teachers can provide extremely helpful information in their evaluations.
  • Not only do they discuss your performance in their particular class or classes, but often they write about such things as your intellectual curiosity, energy, relationships with classmates, and impact on the classroom environment. Obviously it is important to ask for recommendations from teachers who know you well.
  • There are no score cutoffs for standardized tests, and successful candidates present a wide range of test results. During the most recent year, test score ranges (25th to 75th percentiles) for enrolled freshman were:
  • SAT-Verbal: 710-800
  • SAT-Math: 710-790
  • SAT-Writing: 720-800
  • ACT: 32-35

How do I Apply – Next Steps

  • International students follow essentially the same procedure and use the same application forms as all other students applying to Yale. We understand that some of the forms may be unfamiliar to international applicants.
  • If you find that you need additional explanations about any of the forms, please review the following pages, including, Applying to Yale as a Freshman International Applicant.
  • You may also find the information you need on the Application Instructions & Required Application Component page for all freshman applicants.

Closing Date:

  • January 1 is the deadline for Regular Decision applications.Yale

I am a 17 year old finishing high school in 2012 & intending to enter varsity in 2013. From childhood I began to realise that I was different- my whole family had ventured into sciences and I was destined to do likewise. On passing my O level studies with flying colours, I instead chose to venture into Arts. I became so absorbed and joined the debate & public speaking club which strengthened and made me realise my true dream of becoming a great orator through being a lawyer… Ever since this discovery my life has changed greatly and I have been determined to fulfill my destiny of being a top lawyer trained from the world’s top ranked law school- Yale. I live in Zimbabwe and cannot afford the finances so please help

Samuel this is amazing! This kind of information and advice is all i needed. Hoping above all hopes that here, at yale, is where my dream come true. Though you haven’t given us more information on the chances that a diploma holder has over the rest. I have a diploma in civil engineering.
