University of New South Wales Research Training Program International (RTPI) Scholarships

  • The University of New South Wales (UNSW) offers scholarships funded by the University, the Australian Government, and UNSW faculties and schools, as well as industry and international partners.

Scholarship Overview

  • The UNSW Research Training Program International Scholarship (RTPI) is provided by the Australian Government and UNSW to high-achieving international higher-degree research candidates.
  • This scholarship covers tuition fees, a living allowance, and single overseas student health coverage (OSHC).

  • Any Master by Research, Master of Philosophy, or PhD course in any of the UNSW faculties.

Am I Eligible to Apply?

To qualify for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be an international student
  • Have the academic qualifications required for the course you intend to pursue
  • Have met the English language requirements indicated by UNSW as below:
    • English Language Tests and University English Courses. (Confirm with your testing authority, e.g. Pearson’s, that UNSW has permission to view and verify your test results.)
    • Prior study in English

How Do I Apply – Next Steps

  • Determine your eligibility for your intended course.
  • Find a supervisor and prepare your research plan.
  • Prepare supporting documentation as below:
    • Provide proof of English as per UNSW English language requirements
    • Research plan
    • Your Supervisor’s contact details
    • Official academic transcripts
    • Proof of completion of previous degree(s)
    • An updated curriculum vitae
    • Current/final semester results
    • Passport and visa
    • Recent references (not more than 5 years old)

Closing Date

  • 22 September 2023
  • Note that there are three application rounds every year.
