Scholarship Overview
- The Schwarzman Scholars Program gives the world’s best and brightest students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and professional networks through a one-year Master’s degree.
- Prospective scholars are expected to demonstrate academic excellence, exceptional results in their field, and outstanding leadership qualities.
- Schwarzman Scholars are recipients of world-class education that is a result of interactions with political leaders, foreign ministers, entrepreneurs, and cultural luminaries.

- A one-year Master in Global Affairs, with core coursework that includes leadership, global affairs, and Chinese political, economic, and social reform.
- Elective courses are offered in public policy, global affairs, and economics.
What does the scholarship cover?
This comprehensive scholarship includes:
- Tuition fees
- Room and board
- An in-country study tour
- Health insurance
- Travel to and from Beijing at the beginning and end of the academic year
- A stipend for personal expenses
- Required course books and supplies
How many scholarships are given?
- Up to 200 scholarships are given every year.
- 45% of the recipients are from the US, 20% from China, and 35% from the rest of the world.

Am I Eligible to Apply?
To be considered for this scholarship, you must:
- be at least 18 but not yet 29 years of age by August 1, 2024;
- have an undergraduate degree, or a first degree from an accredited college or university, or its equivalent.
- Demonstrate strong English skills, as all teaching will be conducted in English. Non-native speakers of English need to submit official English proficiency scores as follows.
- TOEFL iBT – Minimum score of 100
- IELTS – Minimum score of 7
- Cambridge Advanced (C1) – 185
- Cambridge Proficiency (C2) – 185
- (Note: This requirement is waived for applicants who have studied at undergraduate or masters level for at least two years with English as the primary language of instruction.)
- Demonstrate academic excellence – you must have a proven track record of academic excellence in your studies, and be among the top of your graduating class.

How Do I Apply – Next Steps
- The application is completed online and submitted electronically. The application link is found on the scholarship website.
- You will need to create an account on the application page before you start a new application.
- The application form must be completed in English.
- After your application is evaluated and accepted, you will then be required to attend an in-person regional interview.
NOTE:
- The application page has tips on how to fill in the different sections of the application. Please look at it carefully.
- You do not have to rush to complete your application in one sitting. You can work on it slowly as long as it is ready by the application deadline.

- Two short-answer responses, 100 words long
- Two essays:
- Essay One – Leadership Essay (750 Words)
- Essay Two – Statement of Purpose (500 Words)
