Scholarship Opportunities in Austria

• The Austrian educational system offers a broad spectrum of educational opportunities for international students.
• Austria’s social security system, economic stability, and hospitable citizens make it the ideal place to live and study.

Tuition Fees

• Austrian citizens and students from the EU and EEA, or those who have Austrian or EU/EEA nationality do not pay tuition fees at public universities.
• International students who are not from the above countries are obliged to pay tuition fees, an average of €1450 per year.
• Students from developing countries may apply for a tuition fee exemption or a partial tuition fee refund, depending on the university where they choose to study.

Scholarships

• Various opportunities exist for scholarships and funding for international students. The three main avenues through which one can get a scholarship are:

1. University and institutional scholarships from higher educational institutions
2. Scholarships offered by Austrian organizations and institutions given to international students depending on one’s country of origin and academic qualifications
3. OeAD (The Austrian Agency for International Mobility and Cooperation in Education, Science, and Research) offers a variety of scholarships for bachelors, masters and doctoral studies.

Am I Eligible to Apply?

To qualify for this scholarship, you must:

• Be a descendant of a forced laborer (regardless of country of origin)
• You must come from a country that suffered under the Nazi regime, especially during the recruitment of forced labor
• Not have studied/pursued academic work/pursued research in Austria in the last six months before taking up the scholarship
• Not be more than 40 years old (born on or after March 1, 1978) for Doctoral students, and not over 35 years old (born on or after March 1, 1983) for other students.

• Applicants must attach the following documents:

1. A fully completed online application form, including a CV and a project plan
2. Two letters of recommendation from university lecturers. Each recommendation must have the letterhead of the university, the date, and the signature of the person making the recommendation, and the official stamp of the university department.
3. Confirmation of supervision by a supervisor at the Austrian university of choice, university of applied sciences or research institution.
4. A scanned passport showing the name and picture of the applicant.
5. A university graduation certificate of the diploma, degree, master, PhD or doctoral studies received from an institution outside Austria.
6. Confirmation of participation in a study program at a university in your home country, i.e. bachelors, master/diploma or PhD.
7. Descendants of forced laborers must produce a processing number, photocopy of the letter of information or any other relevant proof of their status.

Note:

• The letter of recommendation and confirmation of supervision cannot be issued by the same person.
• Scholarships are highly competitive and are awarded based on merit.
• Incomplete applications will not be considered.
