Qatar Foundation offers students at Education City universities two main financial assistance programs; they are need-based loans and merit-based scholarships. Need-based loans must be repaid in some way, whilst merit-based scholarships are grants.
Qatar Foundation’s financial assistance contributes to equality of opportunity in Education City. Admissions to our universities are on a `needs-blind’ basis, where applicants are selected on their ability to succeed in and benefit from the programs. Successful applicants accepted at any branch campus may apply to Qatar Foundation’s need-based, financial aid loan program, to help them finance their studies. Merit-based scholarships reward top performing students for their outstanding achievements.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Qatar Foundation and the branch campuses award each year a limited number of merit scholarships. The scholarship program enables Education City universities to award full-tuition merit scholarships to a few undergraduates with outstanding academic qualifications. Awardees are selected from among the undergraduate students on the basis of top academic achievement alone; hence no application for merit scholarships is required.
The number of Qatar Foundation scholarships awarded has grown to their present level thanks to generous donations from prominent individuals, private and public institutions.
FINANCIAL AID
Qatar Foundation offers need-based financial assistance through the Hamad Bin Khalifa Financial Aid Program to help students meet the financial obligations of their universities. Financial aid given to students through this program is in the form of loans.
In exchange for the loans awarded, students will be expected upon graduation to repay the full amount of the loan according to a repayment plan or to participate in a paid service program at an organization in Qatar approved by Qatar Foundation.
The Financial Aid Committee at Qatar Foundation will determine financial need according to a uniform method of need analysis. We strive to maintain fair and equitable financial aid policies and practices that ensure equal access for all students who have been admitted to an Education City university.
Financial aid recipients will go through an annual re-evaluation process. This will involve completing supplementary forms and providing updates on previously submitted documents. Students will also be assigned to meet periodically with a financial aid representative from the Education Division of Qatar Foundation.
Eligibility
Financial aid awarded to students through the Qatar Foundation is 100-per-cent need based. In order to be eligible for Qatar Foundation’s financial aid a student must meet the following criteria:
- Have been admitted to one of the universities located in Education City
- Have enrolled as a full-time student and intend to obtain a bachelors degree at one of the universities within Education City.
- Have provided a statement indicating they have not defaulted on loans previously borrowed from Qatar Foundation.
