*Overseas Research Students Awards Scheme – Phased Out

January 20 By Samuel 46 Comments

For PhD and Masters Research Study

Locate a university in UK offering your area of study and apply for the ORS scholarship in that University.

Funding for ORSAS will be phased out gradually over 2009-10 and 2010-11.

ORSAS was set up by the Secretary of State for Education and Science in 1979 to attract high-quality international students to the United Kingdom to undertake research. The Scheme is funded through the four UK higher education funding bodies (for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).

From 2006 onwards, participating Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) have received an annual grant to fund ORSAS and selected their ORSAS award holders internally. The grant is allocated by formula and reviewed periodically with regard to postgraduate research student recruitment and related data. The current formula allocations are set to run from 2006-07 until the end of 2008-09.

Prospective applicants should contact institutions directly for information on how to apply for an ORSAS award. Follow the links to learn more about ORSAS in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

ORSAS awards beyond 2009

The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) will not be able to fund ORSAS after 2009. This change applies to England and Wales only; other UK Funding bodies have yet to make a decision about the future of the ORSAS awards in Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

Dear, Overseas Research Students Awards Scheme
This is Sisay Gere Beyene from Adama University, Ethiopia-Africa

I am from the poorest and landlocked country, Ethiopia, where educational opportunity is still a bottlenecked. With due respect, I wrote this letter to your esteemed organization if I have the chance of PhD scholarship in Health research. My area of interest is PhD in Applied Health research. If not, I am comfortable in any area of PhD in Health Research.

    Just Briefly about me:

I am registered nurse (RN). I have MSc in Adult Health Nursing from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia.

Currently I am lecturer at Adama University, School of Health-Ethiopia. I offer Biostatistics and Epidemiology courses to undergraduate medical and nurse students. Moreover, I had ample experience at different areas of healt

Research activity: I conducted a research on “Professional values held by Baccalaureate Nursing Students in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia”, “Male participation towards fertility control and family planning in Jimma, Ethiopia”, “Determinants for persistent low status of girls and their vulnerability to HIV/AIDS in Oromia region, Ethiopia” and am also doing other researches currently.

Thus, if I have the chance I will be an asset of the health sector, the society and the international community at large.

I hope I will hear your good response soon.

    Many thanks.
