*Overseas Research Students Awards Scheme – Phased Out

January 20 By Samuel 46 Comments

For PhD and Masters Research Study

Locate a university in UK offering your area of study and apply for the ORS scholarship in that University.

Funding for ORSAS will be phased out gradually over 2009-10 and 2010-11.

ORSAS was set up by the Secretary of State for Education and Science in 1979 to attract high-quality international students to the United Kingdom to undertake research. The Scheme is funded through the four UK higher education funding bodies (for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).

From 2006 onwards, participating Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) have received an annual grant to fund ORSAS and selected their ORSAS award holders internally. The grant is allocated by formula and reviewed periodically with regard to postgraduate research student recruitment and related data. The current formula allocations are set to run from 2006-07 until the end of 2008-09.

Prospective applicants should contact institutions directly for information on how to apply for an ORSAS award. Follow the links to learn more about ORSAS in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

ORSAS awards beyond 2009

The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) will not be able to fund ORSAS after 2009. This change applies to England and Wales only; other UK Funding bodies have yet to make a decision about the future of the ORSAS awards in Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I am Markos Bassa Alaro, 27 and an Ethiopian. I graduated from Arba Minch University and owned BA degree in Economics. I have also forestry diploma and graduated with distinction in both: CGPA of 3.56 in Economics(2008) BA & 3.61in forestry diploma(2002). I am a program coordinator and working at church based local NGO in Ethiopia . I need to continue my MSc degree In Environmental & Resource Economics( related) in your university and help my country after having this MSc degree. But, my current economic situation does not allow me to learn by myself. Therefore, I need a free scholarship that will cover all required costs. I am lucky enough if I get the chance to join it as I am eager to upgrade my skill.

So, would you show me how to get free scholarship and application processes, please?

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

    Yours truly in Jesus Christ,

    Dear Sir/Madam,

Re:- INQUIRING FOR EDUCATIONAL FINANTIAL ASSISTANCE

I am a Ugandan citizen currently provisionally enrolled at Makerere University (Arts fuculty, Depatment of Philosophy) as Ph.D student, already completed and successfully passed the “Synopsis.” I have also submitted my Ph.D research proposal whose topic is: THE ETHICS OF JUST WAR PARADIGM INFORMED BY A PRAXEOLOGY OF PEACE: “A Study of Jus t War Tradition in Light of Michael Walzer.” I will focus on the underlying aspect of just war theory namely the search for positive peace especially in Africa, particularly in East Africa and the Great Lakes region: Uganda, Rwanda, Congo, Burundi, Kenya and Tanzania. I will be defending the proposal very soon after which the next step would be official enrollement as full time Ph.Dstudent and researcher. I am writing this note to inquire about the possibility of finantial assistance or even any other possible support in the order of completing this study project.

    Please advise accordingly.
    Thank you.
    Sincerely
    Deogratias Biabandi

    Dear Sir/Madam,

RE: ENQUIRING FOR EDUCATIONAL FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE.

I am Kenyan student waiting to graduate later this year from Moi University in Kenya having pursued a four year integrated a course leading to a degree in Bachelor of Arts (Social Studies) specializing in Sociology. I am writing this note to enquire about possible financial assistance pertaining to post-graduate studies.

Later this year, I intend to start my post-graduate degree pursuing a Masters Degree in Sociology specializing in Demography at Moi University. As part of the requirement for this degree, my research topic will focus on population, poverty and underdevelopment in Kenya. I intend to polish this topic in consultation with my university instructors in due course.

    Please advise accordingly.

    Thank you.

    Sincerely

    Emmanuel Kipkemei Bunei
