- provides a number of postgraduate scholarships for outstanding students from South Africa, Sri Lanka and Ethiopia, who wish to study at NUI Galway, who would otherwise be unable to finance their studies in Ireland. Priority will be given to applicants who demonstrate that the knowledge they acquire from their studies will be utilised subsequently to support development in their home countries.
- The scholarship amount will be up to € 15,000 for one academic year towards the cost of travel and accommodation. In addition, relevant tuition fees will be awarded by NUI Galway. Selection criteria will be based on academic merit and financial need.

Where can I obtain further information about the individual programmes on the NUI Galway International Scholarship Programme Approved Course List?
- Information regarding the programmes contained on the Approved Course List can be accessed through NUI Galway’s postgraduate prospectuses. Programmes are listed by Faculty at http://www.go4th.ie/prospectus.html
I made an application to the NUI Galway International Scholarship Programme last year, can my application be reconsidered?
- Applications from previous years are not retained and cannot therefore be reconsidered.
I wish to make an application for the NUI Galway International Scholarship Programme using the documents I submitted for an application last year. Can I do this?
- We do not retain documents received as part of previous applications. Please send your completed application form with all required documentation.
What are certified transcripts and degree certificates?
- Transcripts and degree certificates must be certified as true copies. Certified copies of documents may be obtained by bringing the original document and a photocopy of the document to your University/College, Local Police Station, Solicitor, Courthouse, or Commissioner of Oaths, and having the photocopy certified and officially stamped as a true copy of the original. Photocopies that are not certified will not suffice. Please note that these documents will not be returned.
I will not receive my final degree certificate or examination results until July 2007. Can I send my supporting documentation in July?
- The closing date for applications is 30th June. NUI Galway will not accept any supporting documentation or applications after this date.
Should I make my application for the NUI Galway International Scholarship Programme using the online PAC system at www.pac.ie
- Applicants for the Scholarship Programme should not make their application through the online PAC system (www.pac.ie). Scholarship applications should only be made on the official International Scholarship Application Form which can be downloaded at http://www.nuigalway.ie/international/fees/scholarships.html
Can I apply for a programme that does not appear on the NUI Galway International Scholarship Programme Approved Course List?
- Only applications for courses itemised on the Approved Course List will be considered for the Scholarship. Applications for programmes which are not included on the authorised list will not be considered.
What countries are eligible for consideration under the NUI Galway International Scholarship Programme?
- Applications will be accepted from citizens of South Africa, Ethiopia and Sri Lanka only.
What are the English language requirements for the International Scholarship Programme?
- International candidates will be required to show proficiency in the English language i.e. a score 6.5 score on the IELTS or equivalent is required for Commerce, Medicine Law and Arts. Science and Engineering require an IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent. This requirement can be waived at the discretion of the Programme Coordinator of the course you are applying for if he/she is satisfied that your English is of a sufficiently high standard. If your education has been through the medium of English you should state this on your application in lieu of providing the results of an English language proficiency test.
Do I have to pay a fee for my application to the NUI Galway International Scholarship Programme?
- There is no application fee when making an application to the International Scholarship Programme using the authorised application form. The application form can be downloaded at http://www.nuigalway.ie/international/fees/scholarships.html
- Individuals wishing to make applications outside of the Scholarship Programme using the online PAC system will be liable to pay the applicable application fee to PAC.
When will I receive notification that my application has been successful/unsuccessful?
- The results of the International Scholarship Programme will not be available until mid to late July 2007. Applicants will receive the results of their application by email. Please ensure that your email address is clearly legible on your application form.
Will I receive a confirmation that my application has been received?
- Due to the volume of applications received annually it is not possible to confirm receipt of each application.
