Scholarship Overview

  • The Government of the Republic of Mauritius is offering scholarships to deserving students who are resident citizens of member states of the African Union or African Commonwealth countries.
  • These scholarships are for full-time, on-campus undergraduate (diploma/degree) programs tenable in public Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Mauritius.

What does the scholarship cover?

  • Tuition fees and course-related costs – resident citizens of SADC countries receive MUR 100,000 annually, and those from non-SADC countries receive MUR 160,000 annually.
  • A living allowance of MUR 14,200.

Am I Eligible to Apply?

To qualify for this scholarship, you should:

  • Be a resident citizen of a member state of the African Union or African Commonwealth.
  • Should be above 18 years of age and should not have reached your 26th birthday by 01 January 2024.
  • Should have successfully completed secondary schooling and should satisfy the minimum grade requirements as indicated below:
    • At least 21 points at GCE or HSC A Level which will be computed based on the following grades obtained in three Principal subjects: A+=10, A=9, B=8, C=7, and D=6;
    • At least an overall average of 60% or an overall average equivalent to 12/20;
    • Any qualification equivalent to (i) or (ii) above.
  • In case the language of instruction in the qualifying examination is not English, provide a valid TOEFL test result with a minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based), or 79 (internet-based), or valid IELTS test results with a minimum score of 5.5 or acceptable proof of English Language proficiency. Note that selected candidates will be requested to have a verbal interaction virtually before the award of the scholarship.  

How do I Apply – Next Steps

  • First, apply for at least one full-time on-campus program at a public HEI of your choice. This application must be made as soon as the HEIs have opened their application windows on their respective websites.  
  • Next, obtain a conditional offer (letter of admission) from your chosen Mauritian public HEI and submit this along with the scholarship application, or submit an acknowledgment notice from a Mauritian public HEI that the application for a seat has been made and the appropriate application fee has been paid. 
  • You must then submit a completed Mauritius-Africa Scholarship Application Form along with all the required documents as listed below.
  • Candidates must also submit the fully completed Application Form and certified copies of the following documents as part of their application to their local Nominating Agency.

  • A completed Application Form 
  • A certified copy of a Birth Certificate 
  • A certified copy of the biodata page of a passport 
  • Certified copies of educational certificates  
  • Certified copies of transcripts
  • A copy of a letter of conditional offer by a public Higher Education Institution in Mauritius (if available at the time of application)  or a copy of an acknowledgment notice from a Mauritian public HEI that the application for a seat has been made and the appropriate application fee has been paid
  • A medical certificate duly filled and signed by a registered Medical Practitioner in Section 6 of the Application Form.

Closing Date:

  • 19 May 2023 for online submissions
  • 26 May 2023 for hard copy submissions
