MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at USIU – Africa

The United States International University – Africa (USIU-A) has partnered with the MasterCard Foundation to set up its global Scholars Program at the university.

Scholarship Overview

  • The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at USIU – Africa, through its full-cost scholarships, will offer academically talented youth from Africa who have gender, financial, disability, or displacement constraints an opportunity to access world-class university education.
  • This scholarship targets first-time undergraduate degree applicants.
  • At the end of their studies, scholars will be required to lead change in their communities and contribute to meaningful transformation across the continent, having been equipped with locally applicable and internationally recognized qualifications.

  • School of Communication, Cinematic and Creative Arts (SCCCA) – Bachelor of Arts in Animation, Bachelor of Arts in Film Production and Directing
  • Chandaria School of Business (CSOB) – Bachelor of Science in Finance, Bachelor of Science in International Business Administration, and Bachelor of Science in Accounting

Am I Eligible to Apply?

To qualify for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be a young person (youth) not exceeding 29 years of age.
  •  Be a youth in one of these categories – a young woman, a young man, a refugee and displaced youth, or a young person with a disability. (Young women are encouraged to apply)
  • Demonstrate the following qualities:
    • Academic talent: You must value learning and be personally motivated to complete your education. You must also meet the university admission requirements set by the Kenya Commission for University Education or its equivalent.
    • Commitment to giving back: You must be committed to improving your community, with evidence of past engagement in community outreach activities.
    • Leadership potential: You must be committed to becoming a change maker, role model, and mentor who embraces ethical leadership.
  • Be interested in any of the 11 approved undergraduate degree programs for the Scholars Program at USIU-Africa
  • Meet the admission criteria and academic qualifications for any of the 11 approved undergraduate degree programs for the Scholars Program at USIU – Africa

How Do I Apply – Next Steps

  • You can download the application forms from the university website, or pick them up from the Admissions office at the university.
  • Next, submit the completed application form by email, making sure that the scanned copy of the scholarship application form and all required documents are scanned in PDF format and clearly named while saving. Indicate your name as the email subject, and email to mcfsp-applications@usiu.ac.ke.
  • You can also drop your application at the Admissions Office at the university, or post it to:

NOTE:

  • You can only send in one complete application. Duplicate and multiple applications will be rejected.
  • Canvassing will lead to automatic disqualification.

Required Documents

  • Application letter stating:
    • Personal background including family financial position
    • Why you chose USIU- Africa
    • Where you see yourself after graduation
  • Copies of academic documents
  • A recommendation from your former sponsoring organization, a Head Teacher or career advisor who has known you for at least 2 years. The letter must be current, official, stamped, and signed.
  • One recent passport size photograph
  • A copy of a birth certificate, National Identity Card or Passport, and/or refugee travel document
  • A copy of a refugee identity document (where applicable)
  • A copy of a disability registration document/card (where applicable)

Closing Date

  • October 1, 2021
