Australian Development Scholarship Program (ADS)

  • The Africa ADS program provides academic scholarships to undertake Master Degrees and Postgraduate Diplomas There website is designed to be a useful tool for you to find out more information about the scholarships eligibility criteria, country specific details, the institutions at which the scholarships can be undertaken, information about Australia and the regions where the institutions are located as well as details on the forum (chat room) and alumni to connect with past and present awardees.
  • Priority sectors: Health (Including child and maternal health. HIV / AIDS and public sector management aspects of the sector) and Environment (including water and sanitation)
  • Number of scholarships available for 2009 intake : 12

Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program (IFP)

  • seeks to build a new generation of social justice leaders worldwide who come from groups and communities that have traditionally lacked access to higher education, and are selected on the strength of their academic achievement, leadership, skills and social commitment.

Guest Scholarship Program for Master’s level studies in Sweden

  • The objective of the scholarship program is to promote democratic, economic and social development through supporting know-how and transfer of knowledge to advanced students within areas in which Sweden is at the forefront of academic research.

KAAD Scholarship Program – Germany

  • is addressed to post-graduates and to academics who already gained professional experience and who are interested in postgraduate studies (or research stays) in Germany. This program is administered by regional partner committees, staffed by university professors and church representatives. Normally documents are submitted to the committee of the applicant’s home country.

Robert McNamara/EADB Graduate Scholarship in Development Studies

  • offers three scholarships each year to citizens who wish to pursue studies leading to a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Development Studies in a recognized institution of higher learning in East Africa. Each scholarship covers tuition fees, subsistence allowance, travel, and other related expenses. Successful applicants must study in an institution outside their country of origin.

Windle Trust International

  • Sponsors refugees or internally displaced people to study for postgraduate qualifications at universities in Britain. These students arrive in the UK from some of the most basic of conditions in refugee camps. Competition and demand for sponsorship is high.

For PhD and Post Graduate Students

Fulbright Program for Foreign Students

  • Kenyan scholars who wish to apply for Fulbright awards to conduct research in the United States can do so under two programs, the African Senior Research Program (ASRP) and the Professional Development Program (PDP).
  • ASRP awards enable chosen candidates to conduct three to nine months of Post-doctoral scholarly or applied research during one academic year at an academic or research institution in the United States.
  • PDP grants allow candidates to undertake three to five months of a planned program of reading and research at a U.S. institution; “Proposals under this program should be linked to professional duties (teaching, advising, administration).
  • Programs involving doctoral dissertation research or general professional travel are not accepted. Both programs are for research or reading and research only and do not include lecturing. Thus, lecturing should not be part of the project statement.

University of Newcastle

  • will roll out the second stage of a major development initiative in eastern and southern Africa, launching a new scholarship scheme with the Government of Kenya for five PhD students.
  • The scholarship scheme is part of a $2.6 million University initiative to build capacity in countries in eastern and southern Africa.
  • The initiative involves waiving fees for up to 30 government-sponsored research higher degree students from Africa to study at the University of Newcastle in Australia over the next three years.
  • The five scholarships launched today in Kenya are the second stage of the initiative, and follow five scholarships announced in Botswana last year.

University of Sydney World Scholars

  • From 2009, up to 20 new full tuition fee PhD scholarships will be available per annum for international students. Scholarships will cover the full cost of tuition fees for three years. A travel contribution of up to $2000 will also be provided to scholarship holders towards a return international air fare.

    I am a kenyan female student holding a bachelor of laws degree and a post graduate diploma in law.
    I now want to pursue a masters degree in International Law and Diplomacy.

    hi, an kenyan undergraduate business student in moi university west campus i come from poor background and my parents are unable to sponsor my education come september the start of academic year and am at risk of droping and therefore was asking if i can get schorlarship.

    hi,i would really like to apply for a scholarship in australia to study for computer science degree course in the university of queensland st. lucia campus.I am currently pursuing a diploma in the same course and would like to further it in Australia.Reason for wanting this scholarship is because i know i have potential n my dad cannot raise the fees for all semesters.i hope you consider me and pray you show me how to apply for one.

    I am a Kenyan citizen aged 23.I have just completed my undergraduate degree in Business Management,Finance &Banking option at Moi University.I would like to pursue a Masters degree in Strategic Management.My parents are not able to raise the finances.I feel i really need the Masters to better my life.Please finance me.

    Dear sir/madam,
    I am a Kenyan citizen, orphan, aged 24. My parents died in the year 1999 and left me in the hands of my relatives. I completed my secondary education in the year 2003 and qualified to university. I have secured an admission to KenyattaUniversity,in Kenya, to persue a bachelor degree couse in education.
    Unfortunately, my relatives and well-wishers are unable to raise my University fees of Kshs 120,000(US$1,500) per year. The course takes four years. Please Sir/Madam assist me financially to complete my University education.
