A New Scholarship Program for International Applicants

Scholarship Overview

  • Emory University has a strong commitment to educating students in a global community and enrolling young scholars from all around the world. Starting with the freshman application process for fall 2013 entry, Emory University will offer scholarship assistance to a select number of international undergraduate students.

Host School(s)

  • Study at Emory College of Arts and Sciences is the four-year, undergraduate division of Emory University that offers an innovative, rigorous, liberal arts curriculum. The undergraduate program combines state-of-the-art university resources and a commitment to teaching undergraduate students.
  • The college is known for academic excellence and progressive thinking that challenges students to do something useful and rewarding with what they learn. Emory College is also known as a place with a tight-knit, diverse  and supportive campus community, where all voices are valued. Atlanta complements Emory’s educational environment with a setting rich with assets for enrichment, employment and entertainment.

Field(s) of Study

  • Any Undergraduate Degree

What does the scholarship cover?

  • Merit-based scholarships ranging from partial tuition awards to full cost of attendance, renewable for 8 semesters.
  • Priority in university housing selection (after the first year) and course registration.
  • Stipends for undergraduate research.
  • The Scholarship and Service summer program, an international community that places Scholars in non-profit internships in Atlanta and focuses on issues of social justice.
  • Summer study abroad stipends.
  • Personal engagement with faculty mentors, faculty-led cultural outings in Atlanta, small-group discussion, and other intellectual endeavors.
  • Stipends for cultural experiences in Atlanta.
  • Community-building programming, including the Scholars Fall Retreat.

How many scholarships are given?

  • A limited number

Which countries are targeted?

  •  An international student is considered a student who is NOT a U.S. citizen and NOT a U.S. permanent resident.
  • Students who hold F1, F2, J1, J2, or G series visas or other eligible non-citizens (humanitarian parole, Cuban-Haitian Entrant, refugee status, asylum) are considered international students.

Am I Eligible to Apply?

  • Admission is highly competitive and funding is limited.
  • The committee will consider, but is not limited to, assessing a student’s academic achievement, potential to contribute to a global campus community, and financial need.
  • The selection process will be particularly sensitive to applicants who would otherwise refrain from considering an Emory education due to cost restraints.
  • This is close to NEED BLIND ADMISSIONS – if you can get in and have financial need then there is funding for you.

How to I Apply – Next Steps

  • In order to be considered for an Emory International Scholarship, international students need simply apply with the Common Application and Supplement under our Regular Decision plan.
  • International students are only eligible for financial aid if they apply for support during the admission process. Students who are certain they will need financial aid at any point during their years at Emory / Oxford must apply for financial aid during the admission process. Only those students who apply for and receive financial aid for their freshman year will be eligible to receive financial assistance in subsequent years.
  • How to Apply: Select YES when asked about applying for need-based financial aid on the Common Application. In addition, international students seeking need-based financial aid are required to submit two additional documents at the time of application:
    1. International / Financial Certification form (FIF), which should be completed and returned to the Office of Admission. The College Board certification of finances form is also acceptable in addition to a note of statement from your bank or financial institution as proof of funding.
