International Programs Center
The Ambassador Edward J. Perkins Scholarship was created to assist University of Oklahoma students to pursue studies in Africa and other strategic areas. Students from overseas may also be supported for their study at OU. This fund was established in the memory of the late Marjorie Schenfeld Stewart.
Awards will be given on a competitive basis to qualified undergraduate and graduate students. Award are based on factors such as (1) the quality of the student’s educational objectives and preparation for overseas study, (2) the student’s field of study, with preference going to International and Area Studies majors, and (3) the student’s financial need.
Scholarship applicants must meet the following specific criteria:
- For OU undergraduate students, junior level standing and a minimum one-year of study at OU by the time of participation. For graduate students, nine credit hours of graded coursework.
- For international students coming to OU, admission to the University of Oklahoma as an undergraduate or graduate student.
- For OU students, minimum overall GPA of 3.0 for undergraduates, 3.5 for graduates. For international students, an equivalent GPA of 3.0 for undergraduates, 3.5 for graduates.
- For all students, demonstration of financial need.
- A preference is given to students planning to travel to Africa, though proposals for travel to other strategic areas of the world are eligible. Strategic areas include Africa, the Middle East, Asia, South and Central America.
