I was born and raised in the rough and rugged, completely volatile post independence Zimbabwe. Despite the political unrest and economic instability that haunts our beloved country, i still find hope for the it in the future. I believe the future is in the children of Zimbabwe, the future is in us, the future is in me.
Ever since i was in my adolescence i wanted to be an accountant. I believe that everything happens for a reason and henceforth everything should be accounted for. I feel that accountability always goes hand in hand with responsibility and integrity and i believe these are the qualities that lacked in the administration running our country. I want to be an accountant not for me but for everyone in the sense that i want to help them responsibly manage their finances and hence improving their standards of living and also that of their children. I strongly believe that its the individual trees that make the forest what it is and if the individual trees are well taken care of you have a thriving forest. I think its also the same for people.
Being the first born in a family of four children I have been presented with the responsibility of being a role model for my siblings, setting standards for them and presenting them with better opportunities in life. I also bear the mammoth task of leading by example and the task of cultivating hope in their minds despite the adversities we continue to face. When they look at my life I want them to be able to say to themselves, “anything is possible”.
We reside in the most economically unsound economy. We currently have the highest level of world inflation which is over a trillion percent and we also have the highest level of unemployment in the world which is approximately eighty five percent and over. We live in the most politically unstable country in the SADC region and possibly Africa headlining the agendas of top world meetings and summits such as the SADC and AU summits in AFRICA and the UN,GROUP 8 and GROUP 20 countries. We continue to make headlines in every major news network from violation of human rights to the UN announced free but not fair Presidential elections to the record unemployment levels. We also have the record emigration levels as people migrate to neighbouring countries due to push factors and seek asylum in South Africa, United Kingdom,United States jus to mention but a few. Some prefer to become economic refugees in these countries.
Education in Zimbabwe has devalued the educational standards have tumbled. Teachers rae striking due to the low remuneration that they receive. Schools close due to the lack of learning eqiupment, transport costs to schools are high, poor sanitation as a result of escalating costs in water and electricity. The cost of education in zimbabwe despite the poor service is escalating.
I am an avarage student and despite the economical and political unrest I completed my A’Level studies three years ago and I qualify to get into any university in the world but i lack the financial ability. I have been taking part in community service such as voluntary teaching to nature my skills. My secondary and high school education was funded by my Uncles in the United Kingdom combined and my parents topping up with the little they could. Now it is difficult to do so as my mother is the only employed parent supporting me and my thrre siblings and all of us need tuition paid and she has to pay for household expenditure including food and transportation. My Uncles support us but the money is not enough to cover all of us as they also have families to support.
I have been accepted and offered a place at Central Queens University in Australia to study Accounting as an Undergraduate for three years, but because i lack the financial ability to pay i seek financial support or a sponsor from anyone willing. This is my time to finally persue my dream and after my studies i aim to come back and srve my continent and country diligently.
The certainity of a better tomorrow lies in us the youth, our ability to work towards a better tomorrow. I want to be a part of the future, I hope to take part in a new world order that supports human rights and ethics through economic, political and environmental development.
