Scholarship Overview

  • The Developing Solutions Master’s Scholarships are designed with a global future in mind. They are ideal for innovative and passionate students who want to make a difference in the development of environmental, social, political, or economic structures of their home country.
  • This scholarship program, founded in 2001, is part of the University of Nottingham’s flagship international program for postgraduate master’s courses, targeting students from African, South Asian, and other selected Commonwealth countries.

Students may apply for full-time master’s degrees in the following fields:

  • Faculty of Engineering
  • Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences
  • Faculty of Science
  • Faculty of Social Sciences

What does the scholarship cover?

  • These scholarships cover 50% or 100% of full-time master’s tuition fees.

How many scholarships are given?

  • Not stated

Which countries are targeted?

Nationals or permanent residents of:

  • Africa (all countries)
  • OR one of the following Commonwealth Countries
    • Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize,
    • Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Brunei, Cayman Islands, Dominica,
    • Falkland Islands, Fiji, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guyana, India,
    • Jamaica, Kiribati, Malaysia, Maldives, Montserrat, Nauru, Nepal, Pakistan,
    • Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka,
    • St Helena, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Tonga,
    • Trinidad and Tobago, Tristan da Cunha, Turks and Caicos Islands, Tuvalu, Vanuatu.

Am I Eligible to Apply?

You can apply for this scholarship if you:

  • Are a national from Africa, India, or any of the Commonwealth countries listed above
  • Are classified as an overseas student for fee purposes
  • Have not already studied and been awarded an undergraduate or master’s degree outside of your home country
  • Are not currently studying at a University of Nottingham campus or are not a University of Nottingham graduate
  • Already hold an offer to start a full-time master’s degree program at the University of Nottingham in the 2024/2025 academic year in an area of study within the listed faculties

NOTE: 

  • Priority is given to candidates who have not previously studied outside of their home country.

How do I Apply – Next Steps

  • First, you must apply for and receive an offer to study for a full-time master’s degree before you can apply for the scholarship.
  • After you receive a study offer from the University of Nottingham, apply for a scholarship at the scholarship section of the university’s online application system.
  • Attach all supporting documents to your application form.
  • If you have an offer for an MRes course, you will need to email the scholarships team using the email address on the university website to receive instructions on how to apply for the scholarship.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstration of the applicant’s vision and a tangible plan for developing a solution that will contribute positively to developmental challenges in their home country.
  • Reasons for studying at Nottingham.
  • Academic and other noteworthy achievements.

NOTE:

  • Prepare strong answers for your application, as these will be assessed alongside academic merit.
  • You must adhere to the word count limit for all questions as indicated at the end of each question.  Responses that exceed the outlined word count may not be reviewed.
