East Africa International Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships in Czech Republic
If you are from East Africa (in particular Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania) then this is a good scholarship opportunity. The undergrad program is for Ethiopia only and you would need to spend a year learn the Czech language. The graduate program is for all four countries and focuses on agriculture, economics or information technologies.

The Government of the Czech Republic has offered a grant of scholarships for the academic year 2012/2013 to Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania. The offer has been officially notified to the respective ministries of foreign affairs.
The Government of the Czech Republic offers a grant of scholarships for the academic year 2012/2013 to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Republic of Kenya, Republic of Rwanda and the United Republic of Tanzania. The offer has been officially communicated to the respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

* Preferably in geology, agriculture, medicine, shoemaking and economics.
The undergrad program is in the Czech Language. I did a little more research and here’s what you would need to do if you get accepted.
- Before starting the study in a particular program at a university in the Czech language, the applicants are granted a one-year scholarship to study in the preparatory class at the Centre of Language and Preparatory Studies of the Institute of Language and Preparatory Studies of the Charles University (ILPS).
- In the course of this language and preparatory training, students deal with recognition of their foreign secondary education, file an application to study at a public university and go through the admission process to study Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program at a public university.

If you are applying for the Graduate Scholarship here’s what you will need:
- certified copy of a diploma, certificate or similar proof of proper completion of a Bachelor’s degree program
- certified copy of the Supplement to Diploma or a completed listing of lectures and passed examinations, including their scope and results of examinations),
- additional information proving that the study program was carried out by an institution authorized to provide tertiary education
- additional information about the contents of university education completed abroad
- certified translations of documents referred to in point da) (the best option is a translation into Czech verified by the relevant embassy of the Czech Republic)

Detailed information about the government scholarships offered to foreign nationals from the developing countries is also published on the website of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic.
Application file has to be submitted until the deadline of 18th November 2011.
- Ethiopian, Rwandan and Tanzanian applicants submit their application files to the Czech Embassy in Addis Ababa, Kenyan applicants to the Office in Nairobi.
Application files which will not meet prescribed requirements will be considered incomplete and will not be processed.
- All applicants will be later requested to present themselves for an obligatory interview and a test of proficiency in English, as well as to present originals of the following personal and educational documents authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the respective country:
a. Birth certificate
b. University Diploma or Secondary Education Certificate
c. Student Academic Record
The complete application files will be then forwarded to the Czech Republic. Scholarships will be awarded based on a decision of a joint commission of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Education, Youth and Sports.
The applicants will be notified by the Embassy whether the scholarship is awarded or not in June 2012.

I am Tesfaye Mehari from Ethiopia. I have been graduated from Arba Minch University (Institute of Technology ) in Applied Geology on 2,June,2011. I stayed in the university four years in studying geology. During my stay in the university I took all geology and related courses which are designed for bachelor degree program. Having taken the courses I knew and understood more about earth sciences in general and geology in particular.I am familiar with field works because I have experienced in the three field works (sedimentary petrology,igneous petrology and metamorphic petrology). Moreover, I have built up my knowledge through my B.SC thesis project. My thesis project was on the “Investigation and Exploration of Suitable Quarry Sites”. From the thesis I not only explored and investigated quarry sites but also I knew and understood the engineering properties of construction materials.During my stay in the university I engaged in environmental cub called “Rift Valley Club”. I have also involved in some charity clubs such as HIV/AIDS and Anti-corruption clubs. Currently, I am working as an instructor in Haramaya University, Ethiopia.
What I am requesting now is to have my master program and to dig through it in the fields of geology or in any other related fields. My request is suspended in the air and I will be glad if my request is being welcomed.
