Chevening Scholarships

  • The Chevening Programme is the UK government’s international scholarships and fellowships programme. It is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organizations.

Scholarship Overview

  • The Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals who show potential to inspire, inform, and influence positive change. Through this program, these individuals get the opportunity to study at a UK university, thus gaining a UK educational qualification.
  • Chevening Scholars study subjects in a wide range of fields, after which they proceed to implement their ideas for positive change in a range of sectors in their home countries.

Host School(s)

  • Any university in the UK.

Field(s) of Study

  • Any one-year full-time taught master’s degree course offered at a UK university.

What does the scholarship cover?

  • Payment of tuition fees
  • Economy travel to and from one’s home country of residence by an approved route for the recipient
  • An arrival allowance
  • The cost of an entry clearance (visa) application for the recipient only
  • A departure allowance
  • A contribution of up to £75 for TB testing, where this is required
  • A travel top-up allowance
  • A monthly personal living allowance (stipend) to cover accommodation and living expenses, depending on whether one is studying inside or outside London. These rates are subject to annual review.

How many scholarships are given?

  • 1500 scholarships are awarded every year.

Am I Eligible to Apply?

You can apply for this scholarship if you:

  • are a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory;
  • are committed to returning to your home country for at least two years after your scholarship ends;
  • have at least two years of work experience (2,800 hours);
  • hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK master’s programme;
  • have applied to three different and eligible UK university courses and received an unconditional offer from at least one of these course choices by the application deadline;
  • have applied to a full-time master’s course starting in the autumn term.

How do I Apply – Next Steps

  • Complete the online registration form following these steps. Click on the application system, read and consent to the Chevening terms and conditions and Privacy Notice, and then register your email address and mobile phone number. Afterward, you will receive an email with a link to the application portal.
  • Pass the eligibility checker.
  • Make a note of your access code.
  • Complete each section of the application form (personal details, immigration details, education history, work history, programmes of study, referees, essay questions, and background information).
  • Submit your application after you have ensured that all the sections are marked complete.

NOTE: 

  • Make a note or take a photo of your unique access code for your records as you will need it every time you want to access your application.
