Top 10 South African Secondary School Scholarships

Did you know that there are schools and institutions in South Africa that offer scholarships to high school students? Did you also know that there are scholarships for academics, music, and sport? Check out the list of top 10 South African secondary school scholarships below!

10. Beaulieu College Scholarships

  • Beaulieu College is a private, co-educational school that was started in 2000. It is
    located in Midrand, Gauteng, South Africa.
  • This college offers academic, cultural and sports scholarships to high school
    students who meet the eligibility criteria.

9. Dainfern College

  • Dainfern College awards scholarships to talented current or potential students based on
    the value that they will bring to the school. Recipients of the scholarship
    should have positive personalities, good character and the ability to become
    role models.
  • This college offers academic, cultural and all-rounder scholarships, at the
    discretion of its Scholarship Committee.
  • Dainfern College is located at Dainfern in Johannesburg.

8. St. Cyprian’s School Scholarships

  • St. Cyprian’s School, an independent girls’ school in Cape Town, offers some of the
    top 10 South African secondary school scholarships.
  • It awards a selected number of scholarships to students entering Grade 8, students
    who have a good record of achievement in academics, sport and music/drama.
  • Through
    these scholarships, the school builds brilliance in each recipient, while
    unlocking their unique potential.

7. St. John’s College

  • St. John’s College provides a number of merit-based scholarships to talented
    students who apply for entry to Grade 8 every year. Students get to apply for
    either centenary, sports, music and academic scholarships. The scholarship
    values range in value.
  • St. John’s College is a boy’s school founded in 1898, and is located on St. David
    Road, Houghton, Johannesburg, South Africa.

6. Ruta Sechaba Foundation Scholarships

  • The Ruta Sechaba Foundation was established in 2006 with the aim of providing
    monitored financial support to deserving students.
  • This foundation offers bursaries, scholarships, and awards to students who meet the
    eligibility criteria at Curro and Curro-managed schools.

5. Redhill School Scholarships

  • Redhill School, a co-educational school in Johannesburg, offers sport and music scholarships to current as well as prospective students in Grades 8, 9 and 10.
    Academic scholarships are also offered to current and prospective students commencing Grade 8.
  • The scholarships at this school are awarded to students who show exceptional ability in sports, music, and academics.

4. The George Bizos Saheti Scholarship and Bursary Fund

  • This scholarship fund came into being after the Board of SAHETI, together with Advocate
    George Bizes, resolved to set a scholarship and bursary fund. The aim of this
    fund was to assist and attract outstanding learners who are in financial need
    and unable to continue with their studies.
  • Recipients of this scholarship are enrolled in SAHETI, a non-racial co-educational school
    located in Bedfordview, South Africa.

3. Allan Gray Scholarships

  • The Allan Gray Scholarship, another of the top 10 South African secondary school
    scholarships, is offered by the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation. This scholarship
    targets both local and international students.
  • Students who have the potential to excel academically but are in financial need are
    encouraged to apply for this scholarship.

2. Students for a Better Future (SBF) High School Scholarship Programme

  • Through its scholarships program, SBF offers learners who are academically talented but
    financially disadvantaged the opportunity to attend some of the best high
    schools in the Cape Town region.
  • These scholarships are comprehensive, covering tuition fees and a stipend for books,
    uniforms, stationery, school trips and sports equipment.

1. African Scholars Fund

  • The African Scholars Fund assists learners who show promise in their studies but
    are from desperate backgrounds to complete their secondary education. This fund
    focuses primarily on learner’s care and benefit.
  • The scholarship helps the learners contribute towards their school fees, transport,
    uniform, and other basic needs.
