Top 10 Refugee Scholarships 2025

Are you a refugee or displaced person, and you are looking for opportunities to continue with or further your education? Here is a list of the top 10 refugee scholarships for you to check out!

10. Cara Fellowship Program

  • Cara (Council for At-Risk Academics) assists academics who are in immediate danger, in exile, or who choose to work in their home countries in spite of the risks involved with financial assistance to continue their work.
  • This fellowship program provides tuition or study fee waivers and other forms of support required by the beneficiaries.

9. University of Dundee Humanitarian Scholarship

  • The University of Dundee Humanitarian Scholarship covers the cost of a postgraduate full-time course at the University.
  • Potential applicants should have refugee or asylum status or humanitarian protection status. They should also hold an offer to study for a post-graduate taught program.
  • This scholarship provides a full tuition fee waiver, a monthly accommodation allowance, and a stipend for living costs.

8. Columbia University Scholarships for Displaced Students

  • The Columbia University Scholarship for Displaced Students is one of the top 10 refugee scholarships 2023-2024. This scholarship supports displaced students from all over the world who are unable to pursue higher education due to their circumstances.
  • Applicants for this scholarship should either have refugee status, received US asylum, or submitted an application for asylum in the US.
  • This scholarship provides full tuition fees, housing, living assistance, mentoring, and support for students pursuing both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
  • Up to 30 scholarships for displaced students are given every year.

7. Windle Trust Undergraduate Scholarships in South Sudan

  • Windle Trust, in partnership with NRRDO (Nuba Relief, Rehabilitation and Development Organization) and KODI (Kamma Organization for Development Initiatives) offers undergraduate scholarships for refugee women from the Nuba Mountains of South Sudan.
  • These scholarships cover tuition fees at the Catholic University of South Sudan. Recipients are also entitled to a stipend to support their daily needs.

6. WUSC Student Refugee Program

  • The World University Service of Canada manages the WUSC Student Refugee Program. This program combines access to post-secondary education for young refugees with resettlement in Canada.
  • Each recipient is sponsored for one year, receiving both financial and social support during this period.
  • Applicants to this program should be refugees in a country of asylum in which the program operates, i.e. Jordan, Lebanon, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Malawi.

5. University of Canberra Foundation Refugee Scholarship

  • The University of Canberra Foundation Refugee Scholarship was set up to help refugee students at the University to focus on their studies by providing them with financial assistance towards their study costs.
  • This scholarship targets students who are educationally disadvantaged and non-English speaking. These students should also already be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate degree.
  • Recipients of this scholarship are given $2500 for the first year of study.

4. Macquarie University Asylum Seeker Fee Sponsorship

  • The Macquarie University Asylum Seeker Fee Sponsorship Program provides tuition fee support to students who have asylum seeker visas. This program covers the full tuition fees for any undergraduate course at the University.
  • Applicants should have a bridging or temporary visa and should be in the process of seeking asylum in Australia. They should also have received a full offer of admission to an undergraduate program at Macquarie University.

3. Monash Humanitarian Scholarship

  • The Monash Humanitarian Scholarship is another of the top 10 refugee scholarships 2023-2024. This scholarship program targets high-achieving international students who are also seeking asylum in Australia.
  • Applicants should be currently residing in Australia, holding a Temporary Humanitarian Stay Visa, a Temporary Protection Visa, a Temporary Humanitarian Concern Visa, a Safe Haven Enterprise Visa, or a Bridging Visa.
  • This scholarship provides 100% student funding and a yearly allowance of $6000.

2. Albert Einstein Academic Refugee Initiative (UNHCR – DAFI)

  • The Albert Einstein Academic Refugee Initiative (DAFI) offers refugee students who qualify for undergraduate studies the opportunity to pursue a degree in their country of asylum. This initiative provides a full scholarship for the entire study period and applies to all fields of study.
  • To qualify for this scholarship, individuals should have an asylum seeker certificate or an asylum certificate.
  • The DAFI Initiative also helps refugees become self-reliant by providing them with professional qualifications that they can use to secure employment.

1. Hegg Hoffet Fund for Displaced Women Graduates

  • The Hegg Hoffet Fund for Displaced Women Graduates targets female graduates who have been displaced as a result of wars, political upheaval, gender-related atrocities, or emergencies in their home countries.
  • This fund provides short-term grants for refresher courses aimed at preparing the recipients for re-entry into their professional fields. The fund also covers training courses that will enable recipients to enter into some form of employment.
  • In addition, this fund also gives moral support and helps displaced women to adjust to life in a new society.

These top 10 refugee scholarships provide refugees and asylum seekers with several options for pursuing and completing their studies.

    In south sudan have trouble,hard life. I have lost the strength and energy to speak with my mouth. I am writing an article that is not good enough for you and you do not deserve it. Where I am is bad and challenging. South Sudan refugees, life is difficult for me, and there is no such thing as work. Now I am concerned about what I eat and drink for myself. Things are hard for me.l don’t anyone in South Sudan. If I succeed, my Process I am thinking of moving, before 15 months my case get acceptance but I don’t have a means of assistance here
    Please!help me l have a big dream.
    Please!i live as a refugee almost 4 years with out change of my life and dark future.
