Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program

  • The Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program builds a diverse, multidisciplinary community of emerging leaders from all over the world.
  • Through this program, recipients are guided to collaborate, innovate, and communicate as they prepare to address the complex challenges facing society. 

Scholarship Overview

  • The Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program cultivates and supports a multidisciplinary and multicultural community of graduate students from across Stanford University, and delivers engaging experiences that prepare graduates to be visionary, courageous, and collaborative leaders who address complex challenges facing the world.
  • This scholarship program creates a multidisciplinary community of scholars, offering them a platform for purposeful leadership development and empowering them to impact the world positively by developing skills, broadening their knowledge, and strengthening their character.
  • Each scholar is funded for up to 3 years for any graduate degree at Stanford University.

What does the scholarship cover?

Recipients of this scholarship receive:

  • Funding for up to three years for any graduate degree(s) at Stanford. 
  • A fellowship applied directly to cover tuition and associated fees
  • A stipend for living and academic expenses (such as room and board, books, academic supplies, instructional materials, local transportation, and reasonable personal expenses)
  • A travel stipend intended to cover an economy-class ticket for one annual trip to and from Stanford

NOTE:

  • Newly enrolling scholars receive a one-time relocation stipend intended to offset some of the costs associated with relocation to the area and/or technology purchases.
  • Scholars in their second and third years may apply for supplemental funds to support academic enrichment activities (e.g. conference travel).?

Am I Eligible to Apply?

To qualify for this scholarship, you must

  • Have applied to enroll in a full-time graduate program(s) at Stanford or one of Stanford’s many joint- and dual- graduate degree options
  • Hold the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a college or university of recognized standing
  • Meet all the requirements of the graduate program(s) that you wish to pursue and hold the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a college or university of recognized standing
  • Received your bachelor’s degree in January 2016 or later.
  • Be proficient in written and spoken English

NOTE:

  • Priority will be given to applicants who will spend at least two years at Stanford

How Do I Apply – Next Steps

  • You must have applied to, been accepted by, and enrolled in a full-time Stanford graduate degree program.
  • You must submit two separate applications; one to Knight-Hennessy Scholars, and one to your desired Stanford graduate degree program.
  • The steps for application are as follows:
    • Step 1: Create your two online applications as early as possible.  You do not need to complete the application at once; you may save your progress and return to it as needed.
    • Step 2: Enter your recommenders’ information in your two applications as early as possible. This allows your recommenders ample time to submit their letters.
    • Step 3: Complete the various sections of the application, saving your progress as you go. Allow yourself ample time to prepare materials that may take longer to prepare, such as essays or personal statements.
    • Step 4: Submit the online applications by their respective deadlines. 
    • Step 5: If your Stanford graduate program requires test scores and you receive new scores after submitting your KHS application, update test scores for Knight-Hennessy Scholars through your application status page.

  • You must submit all Knight-Hennessy Scholars application materials in English.
