Global Health Medical Scholarships
- In an effort to further the educational component of our mission, the Center for Global Health supports students who exhibit outstanding academic records and a strong desire to pursue global health careers. Each year, eight or nine Medical Scholarships are awarded to incoming MPH, MHS, and MS students in the Bloomberg School of Public Health. The scholarships are awarded through a competitive process and are open to all domestic and international students.
Latin American School of Medical Sciences Undergraduate Medical Scholarships – Cuba
- are for undergraduate Medical Scholarships to study in medicine offered by the Cuba government.
- Applicants need to be high school graduates, 18 to 25 years old, from disadvantaged backgrounds.
- The ability to speak Spanish is not required. Students who do not speak spanish spend upto four months immersed in the language after arriving in Havana.
- The Latin American School of Medical Sciences (LASMS) educates a minimum of 500 doctors each year — for free.
- The program of The Latin American School of Medical Sciences is based on intensive advising and tutoring designed to help every student succeed.
- Students must pass competency exams at appropriate points in their course of study.
- The six-year medical school program, begins every September and is divided into 12 semesters.
- Students study at the LASMS campus for the first two years, and then go to another of Cuba’s 21 medical schools, which are located throughout the island, to complete their studies.
- The Cuban medical training model combines theory and practice and is oriented toward primary care, community medicine and hands-on internships.
- In order to register and get a scholarship in the Latin American School of Medical Sciences (Escuela Latinoamericana de Medicina – ELAM) interested candidates must go to the Cuban diplomatic missions in their respective countries and ask for the information.
Taipei Univeristy (TMU) Medical Scholarships
International students may apply for TMU Medical Scholarships. We accept applications for TMU scholarship along with admission applications. Students’ previous academic performance, extra-curriculum activities, work experience, financial situation and other achievements will all be considered as crucial for first year scholarship. Students will begin to receive their scholarship after they have enrolled and registered at TMU. Scholarship recipients will receive their scholarship starting from September to August of next year. Recipients will need to re-submit applications for scholarship each year. Students’ academic performance, international students’ activity attendance, working project attitude and financial condition while attending TMU will be taken into consideration for scholarship eligibility each year.
The types of medical scholarships available
- Medical Scholarships A):Tuition waiver plus monthly stipend of NTD25,000 for one year, scholarship recipients need to pay their insurance, rent and living expenses by themselves or from their monthly stipend.
- Medical Scholarships B): Monthly allowance NTD 25,000 for one year, recipients need to pay tuition and fees, insurance, rent and living expenses by themselves or from their monthly stipend.
- Medical Scholarships C):Tuition waiver plus monthly stipend of NTD12,000 for one year, scholarship recipients need to pay their insurance, rent and living expenses by themselves or from their monthly stipend.
- Medical Scholarships D): Tuition and Fees waiver, no monthly allowance. Recipients will need to pay for their insurance, rent and living expenses.

Joining the university for any course other than medicine will be a great demotivation towards higher learning because my childhood dream has been, and still remains becoming a medical doctor. The only thing that now stands between me and my patiently awaited dream is lack of funding. This, i believe, with full scholarship, will cease to be an impediment along my path towards my goal.

My name is Kelvin Gabari, i have a BSc in Biochemistry (honours). I would love very much to read medicine.
My keen interest in medical science and overwhelming desire to become a doctor has been driven by the poor state of healthcare which was apparent to me growing up in Africa. It was customary to see critically ill people, suffering due to lack of medical resources and personnel. I saw at first hand this failure in the healthcare system in Africa while working as a healthcare assistant at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. I recognised at that time the dire need for more doctors to be able to adequately response to the healthcare demand and hence to be able to improve the national health service. It was this experience that triggered my interest in medical science, but it is the desire to care, the caring and emotional importance, the significant responsibility associated with being a doctor and the dynamic and evolving scientific nature of the role, that has led to my life long commitment to becoming a doctor.
My awareness of the spread of HIV has driven my avid interest in becoming a doctor. I want to be able to play a part in the prevention, treatment and research of the disease.
I feel I have prepared myself to both learn and be taught how to best perform in the demanding environment of a hospital.
I am confident that I have the determination and enthusiasm for medicine, which in the future will help me realise my goals of helping people in communities with insufficient healthcare and educating people on how to live a healthier lifestyle

I have BSC in Medical laboratory science from recognized university of Ethiopia (Addis Ababa University ) in 2004 E.c (2011).
My deepest interest in medical science and overwhelming desire to become a doctor has been driven by the poor state of healthcare which was apparent to me growing up in Ethiopia. It was customary to see critically ill people due to lack of medical personnel. I saw at first hand this failure in the healthcare system in Ethiopia while I was involving in the assessment of healthcare facilitys here in Ethiopia.I recognised at that time the need for more doctors to be able to adequately response to the healthcare demand and hence to be able to improve the national health service. It was this experience that triggered my interest in medical science, but it is the desire to care, the caring and emotional importance, the significant responsibility associated with being a doctor and the dynamic and evolving scientific nature of the role, that has led to my life long commitment to becoming a doctor.
Please assist me with a scholarship to fulfill my childhood dreams where I will in turn help the needy in the society upon my completion.

Medicine has always been a challenging profession. Currently there is a critical shortage of medical staff in our country. Worst of all there are almost no Medical Doctors in rural areas.
Today so many people are dying from preventable diseases such as malaria, measles and diarrhoeal diseases especially in rural areas. Besides this, the increase in the disease burden e.g. HIV/AIDS and other related diseases. Primary Health care in our country is being neglected. Given a chance to pursue an undergraduate degree in medicine, I would do everything possible to complete the course successfully and apply all the knowledge I would get to improve the health of my people in Zambia.
Not looking at the above medicine has always been my dream career. Given an opportunity to pursue it I would do everything possible to complete the course with outstanding performance.
By tailing a degree in medicine, I would be of great help in promoting good health to the Zambian public and hence help in the prevention of diseases.
Due to diversity and complexity of the environment attending to these diseases and running of Rural Health Centre’s in Zambia requires highly trained medical personal. A medicine degree programme will provide me with the much needed skills to run Rural Health Centre’s and hence help in prevention of the aforementioned diseases.
Health reforms were introduced in Zambia so that better health services can be provided to the Zambian public
A medicine degree programme would equip me with diverse knowledge and skills that would enable me contribute effectively and meaningfully to better health systems in Zambia.

As a matter of fact, to become a doctor was my dream to help my family with financial problem and as well help my family to be health conscious. I’m Pilimilose Moleni from the Friendly Island of Tonga, I’m 18 years of age. I grew up in a family environment that has a genetic disease and I have witnessed the outcomes that they have suffered diabetes. I wanted to study medicine to be able to help my family problems and the only way I could contribute is, is to help supply medical attention.
