Scholarship Overview
- The MasterCard Foundation Online Postgraduate Scholarship Program at the University of Edinburgh provides postgraduate scholarships to students from across Sub-Saharan Africa who have overcome barriers to their education, display leadership experience, and show academic potential.
- This program aims to equip a community of talented, compassionate, and entrepreneurial leaders with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to drive sustainable transitions in their home countries.

What does the scholarship cover?
- Full approved tuition fees.
- An academic stipend to allow for access to high-quality internet and a laptop.
- The opportunity to attend an in-person gathering.
- Participation in activities as part of the wider Climate Leadership Programme at the University of Edinburgh, including regular online workshops, online coaching, and support.
- A dedicated Online Coordinator.
- Additional support is offered to Scholars with disabilities based on an assessment of needs.

Am I Eligible to Apply?
To qualify for this scholarship, you must:
- qualify academically for admission to the University of Edinburgh for a relevant degree program listed, with the equivalent of a UK Second Class (Upper) Bachelor’s (Hons) degree or higher;
- have graduated from an undergraduate study program and must have a degree certificate and official final transcript to upload alongside their application by 8 November 2024;
- have faced significant barriers to education (social, financial, personal, practical, or health-related);
- be residents and citizens or hold refugee status in a Sub-Saharan African country;
- have faced barriers to education and early career;
- demonstrate a track record of leadership and service within their community;
- demonstrate experience, or at least ambition, in making a meaningful impact in addressing the climate crisis;
- be 35 or under the year the program commences (born on or after 1 January 1990);
- not have previously completed a postgraduate degree and not be enrolled (or be applying for enrollment) at a separate university whilst on the MasterCard Foundation Scholarship.
NOTE:
- Applications from female scholars, scholars from refugee and displaced backgrounds, and scholars with disabilities are encouraged.
How Do I Apply – Next Steps
- Ensure that you qualify academically for admission to the University before applying for the scholarship.
- After making sure you qualify for admission, apply for the scholarship program before applying to the University.
- Applications must only be submitted on the online application system. Those submitted in any other way will be rejected.
- The application link will be available from 1 October 2024.

This is a great opportunity, but I don’t think I’ll be able to apply this year.
I will be graduating by the 30th of this month and won’t get my Certificate and Transcript before the deadline for the application.
I really hope for an opportunity next year, God willing.
