Allan Gray Scholars
Scholarship Overview
- The Foundation offers high school scholarships to learners who demonstrate the potential to excel academically, and who have the desire to fully engage in available opportunities. Scholarship recipients, known as Allan Gray Scholars, receive funding for high school tuition. It is the Scholarship’s vision to develop a community of young entrepreneurially minded leaders so that Scholars will become Candidate Fellows or gain access to university.
What does the scholarship cover?
- School Tuition Fees
- Boarding Fees
- Prescribed Book Allowance
- School Uniform Allowance
- Civilian Clothing Allowance
- Boarders Settling-in Pack (should the Allan Gray Scholar take up boarding)
- Toiletry Allowance
- Stationery Allowance
- Travel Allowance (should the Allan Gray Scholar take up boarding outside of his/her home province)
- Pocket Money
- Extramural Allowance
Which countries are targeted?
South Africa
- This Scholarship opportunity in South Africa is available to learners entering high school, however learners can only apply when they are in Grade 6. An Allan Gray Scholarship will provide them with the opportunity to attend one of the Foundation’s partner Placement Schools in South Africa.
Namibia
- The Scholarship Opportunity in Namibia searches for and selects the brightest Grade 7 learners to place in leading private and public schools in Namibia. The Scholarship commits to investing in and supporting learners who fulfill the requirements from Gr.8 to Gr.12. For complete information on what the Scholarship offers click here.
Botswana
- The Scholarship Opportunity in Botswana searches for and selects Grade 12 learners who have applied for the Fellowship, but require a post matric qualification in order to gain access to a South African university. Am I Eligible to Apply?
Applicants must be well-rounded individuals and display (entrepreneurial) leadership potential.
In addition the following criteria apply:
- Academic Excellence. Particularly in Mathematics and English.
- Financial need.
- Be a South African citizen.
- Demonstration of the Allan Gray Scholarship Pillars:
– Wisdom & knowledge: creativity, curiosity, open-mindedness, love of learning, perspective
– Courage: bravery, persistence, integrity, vitality
– Vision: appreciation of excellence, gratitude, hope and humor
– Leadership: Citizenship, fairness, sense of justice
