Best U.S. Seminary Scholarships

Bethel Seminary

  • The Elton T. Cable Scholarship is for a student with a world missions emphasis or with plans for a career in world missions. Special consideration will be given to a student either from Calvary Baptist Church in Warren, Pa., or an international student intending to return to his or her own country
  • The Heitzman-Moberg Memorial Scholarship preference (in declining order) shall be given to international students, children of career missionaries, and pastors’ children
  • The Bill and June Horn Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Bethel Seminary students, on any campus, with a preference for international students who will return to their home country to positions of significant denominational or seminary leadership.
  • The Clemmie and John Noble Memorial Scholarship for International Students provides an annual award to an international student committed to returning to his or her country following seminary studies
  • The Reuben and Lillian Omark Memorial International Student Scholarship is given to an international student who demonstrates doctrinal orthodoxy and Christian maturity, and who plans to return to his or her home country to a position of leadership in the church.
  • The Dr. Donald J. Verseput Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Bethel Seminary international students or students of color with interest and ability in New Testament studies

Calvin Theological Seminary International Student Subsidy Fund

  • Awards available to international students who are endorsed by their home church. Ordinarily, the church must be in the Reformed tradition. A student must be fully admitted to a degree program before being considered for International Student Subsidy Funds.

Dallas Theological Seminary – International Student Scholarships

  • International students may apply for tuition scholarships. This scholarship is awarded on a yearly basis. To be considered for aid, incoming students must be approved for enrollment in a degree program and pursue study under the F-1 (student) visa. New international applicants who will require aid must file their applications by January 1, since all international aid is assigned by March 31 for the following academic year. International applicants should be aware that competition for available scholarships is heavy and that grants are made only to the most highly qualified candidates, with respect to ministry experience, ministry potential, support from a sponsoring organization, and academic background. Applications for aid to international students are reviewed by the director of Admissions and the Financial Aid Committee. Students who are awarded an international scholarship should be aware that acceptance of tuition scholarship obligates them to return to their homeland on completion of their program.

Denver Seminary – Dorothy Buker Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • An endowed fund provided by Raymond Buker in loving memory of his wife, Mary Dorothy Buker, for a student who is majoring in world Christianity and who is: 1) an international student who will be returning to his or her own country on completion of study, 2) an American student who is committed to transcultural (missionary) service in a foreign country, or 3) a student who plans to do home mission work.

Desmond Tutu Master’s Scholarship

  • The University of Edinburgh will offer a Scholarship to a student from Africa for postgraduate Master’s study within the School of Divinity for the 2010-2011 academic session.

Fuller Theological Seminary

  • Szeto Fellowship: To qualify for the Szeto Fellowship you must be an international visa student. Preference is give to students from China and other Asian countries.

GCF  Scholarship Funds

  • Since 1979, GCF has been awarding scholarships for theological training at both local and overseas colleges and universities. This is part of GCF’s efforts in promoting and assisting GCF members who desire to pursue higher theological education in the course of God’s calling and their ministry work.

International Theological Seminary – Scholarships

  • Qualified students from Third World churches may apply for various forms of scholarship, which includes tuition, and/or room and board. Since this seminary is fully dedicated to developing and training future leaders of Third World churches, every prospective student is welcomed and encouraged to demonstrate his/her promise and potential for leadership in Third World churches. The scholarships are funded by mission-minded churches and individuals who are concerned for the strategic mission to the Third World through the Seminary. All Scholarships for Third World students are awarded in the form of an interest-free forgivable loan. This loan is automatically reduced by 20 % for each year a student serves the church in his home country or mission field. In the event those scholarship students stay in the United States after graduation, then they are obligated to pay back the scholarship they received throughout their years at ITS as stipulated in the Five-Year Deferred payment Plan stated below.

Westminster Theological Seminary – WEIR SCHOLARSHIP (First and Second)

  • Competitive $25,000 scholarship for tuition/living expenses (with balance for living expenses) for first-year International Student from Africa entering the MDiv program who has high academic standing, is sponsored by and receives high recommendation from church or parachurch organization in Africa and is seeking ordination in a church in Africa

Pan African School of Theology (PAST)

  • Founded in 2006 by PACE Ministries International and given a mandate to provide higher education for a new generation of Christian leaders. The vision called for a new school that would nurture students to be Biblical scholars, peacemakers, evangelists, leaders and spokesmen. They were to be creative thinkers and passionate men-of-action, above reproach, equipped to shepherd the Church and redeem all things to the glory of God.
  • PAST is a private, inter-denominational, residential and day college located in the Aberedare highlands of central Kenya. It facilitates accredited university-level programmes in theology-related fields

World Council of Churches – Scholarships for postgraduate studies

  • Are open to all women and men, lay and ordained, who are recommended by a WCC member church or related church organization. Preference is given to candidates from a developing country, and to those who have not previously studied outside their home country. Scholarships are normally provided for courses ranging from 3 months to 2 years. They are not offered to cover longer courses such as undergraduate or doctoral studies.

Catholic Theological Union

  • Established a variety of Scholarship Programs, each designed with specific ministry opportunities in mind. These memorial scholarships are available within the General Scholarship Fund:

  • Stuhlmueller Scholarship Fund – benefits biblical spirituality students (international women students receive first consideration)

Waldorf – Lutheran Leader Program

  • Waldorf College established the Lutheran Leader Program for the purpose of enrol ling an international student from a developing nation who may not otherwise have an opportunity for higher education. Through the Lutheran Leader Program, an international student who exhibits financial need and meets the proper requirements for the program is enrolled at Waldorf with minimal cost to the student. To be eligible for the program, the student is required to be a member of the Lutheran denomination or Lutheran-related ministry.

ELCA International Scholarships

  • A companionship with many Lutheran churches (“companion churches”) around the world. Enables church leaders to obtain advanced training in areas of work in which the church is engaged (theology, health care, development, etc.) not available in their home countries. After their studies are complete and degrees are earned, the scholarship recipient returns home to work in a position designated by the companion church.

Franciscan University of Steubenville

  • will make two scholarships available every five years. The scholarships will cover the cost of tuition and materials for the MA Theology and Christian Ministry degree program available through Franciscan University Distance Learning. This is a degree in Catholic Theology.
  • This scholarship is open to Roman Catholic clergy, religious, and laypersons who are citizens of African countries and currently reside in Africa. They must also be an active participant in ministry and/or evangelization. Further, the applicant needs to meet all criteria for admission to the MA Theology program. Students who wish to apply for an award should contact the Distance Learning Office.

Fund for Theological Education

Christian International Scholarship Foundation (CISF)

  • is a non-profit ministry focused on identifying and investing in the advanced theological education of gifted Christian leaders from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe.  We are specifically focused on helping those men and women who have already been identified as leaders and will return to positions of senior leadership such as: Executive directors of Christian Relief Organizations; Founders and senior faculty members of Bible Colleges and Seminaries; Presidents of denominations and Authors of desperately needed and culturally relavent theological books
  • CISF SELECTION CRITERIA IS TOUGH. Each scholar must: Be a proven leader from a majority world nation; Evidence deep faith in Jesus Christ; Have exhausted educational possibilities at home; Have a job waiting for them at home or a viable ministry plan – one which demands advanced theological education and Be accepted into a program at a leading university or seminary.

Educating Africans for Christ

  • Partners with evangelical African churches and/or ministries for equipping Africans to be missionaries to their own cultures. The purpose of EAFC is to equip those with calling from God to do whatever work God has called them to for His glory.

Uganda Christian University – Church of Uganda – University Scholarships

  • Offered to Anglican students studying for Bachelor’s or Master’s of Divinity who have been sent by their Bishop for training at the Bishop Tucker School of Divinity and Theology (or Diploma in Theology at Bishop Barham University College).
  • Students may only apply through their bishops.
