FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative Fund (DAFI)
- UNHCR provides, on a limited basis, scholarships for refugees at the tertiary level in universities and polytechnic institutions through the Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative Fund (DAFI). Funding for this programme is provided by the Federal Government of Germany.
- The purpose of the DAFI Programme is to contribute to the self-reliance of refugees by providing them with a professional qualification for future employment. Scholarships are granted only for studies in the country of asylum. Preferably, UNHCR would like to see the graduates return home and contribute to the reconstruction of their home country, or to the development of the country of asylum or the refugee community at large.
- One of the corporate philosophies that distinguishes Bestway Group from other companies is the desire of its chairman Sir Anwar Pervez to help those less fortunate. This is manifested in the charter of the Bestway Foundation established in 1987 in the United Kingdom.
- Every year the Group contributes 2.5% of its profit to the Foundation for its various charitable activities geared towards health and education.
- The United Kingdom Bestway Foundation has announced to award 50 scholarships to students from Swat , which would be given to the university students studying in Pakistan or UK, aiming to facilitate them in completing their studies.
- The High Commissioner of Pakistan to UK HE Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan announced the scholarships on behalf of Sir Anwar Pervez, OBE H Pk the Chairman of the Bestway Foundation as part of fund raising campaign for affected population of Malakand Division.

CARA – Refugee Academic Grants
- Grants aim to enable refugee academics achieve employment in the UK at a level commensurate with their skills and experience in the long term. Grants can support refugee academics to re-qualify in a range of professions in the UK such as teaching, academia, engineering, law, the charity sector and medicine.
- CARA holds 2 grant rounds a year, with deadlines for applications every June and December. Decisions on applications are made two months after the deadlines. For details of the next grant application deadline please see ‘Call for Applications’.
Community College Initiative Program
- enables individuals from Brazil, Cuba, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Pakistan, South Africa, Turkey, and selected countries in Central America to spend one year studying at community colleges in the United States and earn a vocational certificate.
LUMS – National Outreach Programme
- aims to provide equal academic opportunities to people of all social walks across Pakistan. In order to fully harness the potential of the human resources of the country, LUMS has been trying to provide a broader access to its programmes across Pakistan.
- A new initiative – the “National Outreach Programme” was launched in 2001, with the objective of providing educational opportunities to bright and talented students from smaller cities, villages and inner city areas of large urban centres, who are unable to meet the programme’s regular fee requirement. Deserving students with exceptional Matric and FA/FSc results (80% & above) are encouraged to apply through the National Outreach Programme for a four year Undergraduate Programme.

University of Cambridge – 800th Anniversary Scholarships for applicants from Pakistan
- The University has introduced a new scholarship scheme for applicants for undergraduate admission from Pakistan for 2010 entry onwards. The 800th Anniversary Scholarships have been created with funding from Cambridge Assessment, parent of Cambridge International Examinations who provide school exams throughout Pakistan.
- The scholarships to be held at the University of Cambridge are for school-leavers from Pakistan who meet the usual examination qualifications for admission to Cambridge. Applicants for all courses except Medicine and Veterinary Medicine are eligible to apply.
University of Sheffield – Pakistan 50% International Scholarships
- There are two Pakistan 50% Undergraduate Scholarships available for Pakistani students starting their undergraduate degree studies in September 2009.
- Each scholarship is worth 50% of your undergraduate course tuition fee per year. The scholarship will take the form of a tuition fee reduction.
- To be eligible for the Pakistan Undergraduate 50% Scholarship 2009, applicants must be a Pakistan national or permanently domiciled in Pakistan, apply for a study place by 24 April 2009 and hold an offer of a study place for entry in September 2009.
- The Pakistan 50% Undergraduate Scholarship 2009 is awarded on the basis of academic merit.
- If you wish to be considered for this scholarship you need to apply. Eligible students will automatically be sent details of how to apply from January 2008 onwards.
- Applicants cannot apply for the scholarship before being offered a study place at Sheffield.

Hegg Hoffet Fund for Displaced Women Graduates
- deals with applications for assistance from graduate women (in special cases tertiary women students) who have been displaced as a result of war, political upheaval or other serious emergencies, and makes short term grants for refresher courses for re-entry into the candidates’ professional fields, and courses for integration into new countries. In case of serious natural disasters, national federations and associations may apply for short-term grants on behalf of university women (women students), who suffered hardship due to the disaster, and who wish to continue their work or studies.
Pakistan Overseas Scholarship Scheme
- Country: This scholarship program is exclusively open to Pakistani nationals aiming to pursue Master and PhD studies in Sweden.
- Study levels: Master’s and PhD.
- Eligible subjects and programs: The programme is open for studies in all academic subjects.
- Scholarship benefits: The scholarship amounts to 900 Euro per month for MA and PhD students.

We are evacuated from the Swat valley. Our beloved people are killed while the women and children have no fault. Why they have been punished for the war between Taliban and Army. Neither of Taliban nor Army thinked about the innocents, they just tried to acheive thier targets by killing the innocent peoples and destructing the thier houses. The civilized world must be ashamed of itself as they always comment when the game is going to be over, when nothing is left behind except the smoke. It doesn’t matter if those who are saying themselves “CIVILIZED” if participates in rehabilitation it can’t compensate the fear prvailed in the mind of Pakistani people. Its strange that the world was aware of the impact of Army action on the Swat Vally, Shangla, Buner, Dir and other Northern areas but the world was waiting that when they will suffer, and when we will show our symathy to them.
I must say that our current leadership cant handle current situation faced by the Pakistan. Problems are getting more and more but the only thing they can do is to put all these problems on the shoulders of Pakistani nation. The external forces are trying to divide us.The people of Pakistan must understand that we should no more be a crowed but one day we will raise up as a nation.

TIMERGARA, Dec, 23: An orphan medical student reading abroad Naik Khan s/o Gul Nawab of the Osakai village in Adenzai NWFP PAKISTAN has appealed the philanthropists and knowledge-lovers for financial assistance for the completion of his Doctor of Medicines (MD) course in the Osh State Medical College in Karghizistan (a former USSR state). In his written application to the district coordination officer Dir Lower on Thursday, the student said that he had completed six semesters successfully while he had more six semesters to complete his degree from the medical college. “Till military operation Rahi Rast launched in the area I was totally dependent on stone crushing plant which I have set up in the village but it stopped working when the law and order situation was deteriorated in April this year,” said Naik Khan, adding that his business like others failed badly owing to fight between security forces and the militants in the area. He said when he had no more money with him he decided to return to Pakistan on Nov, 2 because he had not been able to afford his educational expenses abroad. He said now he needed at least 15 thousand US dollars to complete the rest of education. He demanded of the philanthropists and the richest persons to support him for completion of his medical education abroad which he would never forget through out his life. “Becoming a doctor is my ambition but poverty is the biggest hindrance in my way,” the student said, adding that those wishing to help him or give him loan could contact on 0345-2705057. With the presence of the president of this university, I would like to greet in Islamic Greetings Assalamu Alaykum.
I am Mr. Mohammad Khavary a son of Ali, I was born in March 21, 1989 from the group of Afghanistan, and I am living in Iran for more than 20 years. Because of the insecurity country of Afghanistan, We decided to go here and stay here.
In Iran it is complicated for all foreigners to live here, up to, for the Entrance Test in University for us it is so hard to take it and also about the tuition fee is very expensive. From this situation everyone who cannot afford for the tuition fee of their children, they are going to send their children in School), because they don’t have ability to pay this all. And another reason that some of families, they are only choosing one of their children to send in SCHOOL. In other side, for all foreigners it is not permitted to take a job here for monthly job.
And I am one of those families that we cannot afford to do this all, and just only a few money that we have. Like others, that their children was born in Iran, they don’t have ability to do this all. From that situation that when I was studying in Elementary school, too much problem that we have regarding paying a tuition fee, getting a Diploma or a Certificate. Besides, until now since when I was studying in Elementary School up to now they didn’t give me a certificate. From this reason, I decided to go to Almustafa International University (Islamic University for all foreigners). And because of family’s abundance, I got from this situation, and also because my family they didn’t have ability to pay for my tuition fee in High school level, I was sent in Almustafa International University. In fact, for all foreigners it is not permitted to work here but some of those works it is, but it’s so very hard just like worker in construction, a tuber, a water constructor and etc. And because of this, we have to work very hard for the monthly salary that we are working for. And also I am studying at that time. But because of the mercy of Allah I had an ability to do this all and until now I didn’t exit from studying an Islamic Theology.
In other problem, for all foreigners that was finished in High school, some of the Universities they are not accepting their own desires to study (just like I want to study a Mechanical Course) they didn’t accept it and because of this I decided to go to Almustafa International University to study an Islamic Theology. In other side, for an Entrance Test in Universities in Iran that it is so very hard in that time, I studied again in Almustafa International University and until now, I am studying in this Islamic University for a license, and in fact, just only one term it will be finish. But, there’s one thing that I want to do, it is to change my course (that I’m studying right now in this Islamic University) to other course, and it is in your University, from this I decided to go to your University to study that course. How many times I talked to all of my friends about this. One of my friends told me about studying in University but me I didn’t know anything regarding this case. But I want to try it and to continue these things and to be one of your students in this University. But because of your hard acceptable, I decided to write a letter so that you will understand what I want to do. And I am hoping that this will be my chance to study in you University because it is better to hope than to standby alone in our own place. But I became hopeless; because of your hard acceptable that it is written in your Entrance Requirements. And because of all things that I said here that too much problem we have. I don’t have ability to pay this all.. And Language Certificate (English language) in Iran, it is so very hard to get it and it is required that we have a high average.
In other side, I don’t have a time to get a certificate language because of this situation and I am also working in that time. But if this situation is easy to you to accept me I mean to give me a chance to study in your University, of course I will do my best and I will study very hard and to work in your University I mean I also want to be a working student. Because I don’t have a lot of money to pay this all and there is no someone who can help me from this situation. But because of my Aim and Purpose that have a worth (that people want to learn knowledge) me, I have that things and I will sacrifice so that there is no body that can let me go far from this desire. And just like in my country, there is no free learning knowledge. In this thing, I am sacrificing so that I can do this just like others in their country, they are studying knowledge. But this is not a wishing moment because in my country there is too much happenings that until now it is going dangerous for us.
Because of this, there is no chance for us to get a certificate from schools. In fact, in every school there are no any other items. I mean in Afghanistan, we don’t have any items in our schools for learning knowledge just like Books, notebooks, and other items.. Regarding about studying, it is just like a park that we go there and nothing! And also there is no higher level than this four years course (license).
I am hoping that this letter will you read with your mercy and of course with the mercy of Allah, and will you respond this letter so that you can help me from this situation.
