Australian Development Scholarship Program (ADS)

Canon Collins Trust

  • provides scholarships to students who wish to pursue a postgraduate degree (mainly Master’s degrees of one or two years) in either the United Kingdom or South Africa.

Developing Countries Partnership Scholarship (DCPS) of the Republic of Indonesia

  • The Government of the Republic of Indonesia provides the opportunity for the citizens of South Africa and the Kingdom of Lesotho to pursue their future career by studying for their Master’s Degree in prestigious Indonesian universities.

Graça Machel Scholarships

  • The aim is to provide female students with scholarships that will equip them to take up leadership roles for the benefit of their community, nation and region. Applications to this UK administered programme are for courses in both South Africa and the UK, and will be considered for other relevant schemes if unsuccessful for this particular scheme.

Higher Education Master in Africa Programme (HEMA)

  • A research based master programme focusing on the changing functions, policies, and operations of Higher Education, with a special emphasis on higher education in the developing world. Through the eyes of various disciplinary perspectives, the programme provides students with a solid basis for analysing and critically assessing change processes at all relevant levels in higher education.

INSEAD INSEAD Greendale Foundation Scholarship

  • The Trustees of the Greendale Foundation wish to provide access to the INSEAD MBA programme to disadvantaged South Africans who are committed to developing international management expertise in Africa and who plan their careers in the Southern Africa region. INSEAD Scholarships are the most sought-after source of financial assistance. They are limited in number and there is significant competition for each award. These scholarships are granted under various criteria and essentially there are two basic categories of scholarships:
    • Need-based: demonstrate financial need
    • Non-need based: based on either merit, nationality, gender, professional background, leadership abilities, field of previous studies etc.

Mandela Magdalene College Scholarship for South Africa

  • Supports South African graduate students of outstanding academic merit and leadership potential who would otherwise be unable to take up a place at Cambridge University. The scholarships are open to citizens of South Africa, normally under the age of 35 and normally resident in South Africa who have, or expect to obtain before 1 October 2007, a first class or high second class honours degree or its equivalent from a recognised University. Successful applicants will be expected to return to South Africa to work or study after completing the course at Cambridge.

Nelson Mandela Scholarships

  • The scholarship wishes to recognise the dedication, determination and drive of previously disadvantaged graduates, by giving them the opportunity to undertake a year of post-graduate study at one of the best universities in the United Kingdom. We believe that exposure to the diverse spectrum of cultures will challenge, motivate and rapidly develop the leadership potential of our scholars.

Rhodes Scholarships in Southern Africa

  • The Scholarship is for full-time study and pays your entire tuition fee. It provides you with a comfortable living allowance of £11,000 per year, and also pays the cost of transport for you and your necessary belongings to and from Oxford .
  • There are ten Scholarships available in Southern Africa each year.

University of Edinburgh Southern African Scholarships

  • will offer two scholarships for postgraduate study in any subject offered by the University to students from Southern African countries. One of the scholarships will be available for a one year Master’s degree programme and the other scholarship for a three year PhD degree programme.
  • The scholarship covers the overseas rate of tuition fee and University accommodation for the duration of the postgraduate degree programme.

POSTGRADUATE – FELLOWSHIPS

African Humanities Program (AHP)

  • seeks to revitalize the humanities in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda through fellowship competitions and meetings associated with them. The AHP is funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

National University of Ireland, Galway – International Scholarship Programme

  • provides a number of postgraduate scholarships for outstanding students from South Africa, Sri Lanka and Ethiopia, who wish to study at NUI Galway, who would otherwise be unable to finance their studies in Ireland. Priority will be given to applicants who demonstrate that the knowledge they acquire from their studies will be utilised subsequently to support development in their home countries.
  • The scholarship amount will be up to € 15,000 for one academic year towards the cost of travel and accommodation. In addition, relevant tuition fees will be awarded by NUI Galway. Selection criteria will be based on academic merit and financial need.

International Senior Research Fellowships

  • support outstanding researchers, either medically qualified or science graduates, who wish to establish a research career in an academic institution. We usually expect applicants for this scheme to have spent a significant period of their postdoctoral (or equivalent) research career working outside their chosen country. However proposals can also be considered from those who have pursued successful careers entirely in-country. Applications are particularly encouraged from outstanding scientists working outside their own countries who wish to return home.

University of Sydney World Scholars

  • From 2009, up to 20 new full tuition fee PhD scholarships will be available per annum for international students. Scholarships will cover the full cost of tuition fees for three years. A travel contribution of up to $2000 will also be provided to scholarship holders towards a return international air fare.

    I am Emmanuel C.M.Mlyashimbi. I have a Bachelor degree in Agriculture general from Sokoine University of Agriculture. Iam employed in the Minister’s Office, Regional administration and Local Government woking as an Agricultural Officer II. I have admitted to pursue a masters degree in agriculture at Sokoine University of Agriculture for the academic year 2009-2010 starting on 21 September 2009. Due to the above I would like to request for funding in my masters degree studies.
